This experimental viaduct highway section was built on weak soil in Lach Huyen port area, with the first floor length of about 550m, the second floor of about 100m, the viaduct width of 10.5m (Van bridge road).
The construction time of the pilot project was only 2 months. After completion, this pilot project was tested and inspected with results meeting current bridge design requirements.
At the meeting, discussing the solution for constructing expressway viaducts using slab-on-pile bridge technology in weak soil areas, Dr. Tran Ba Viet, Vice President of the Vietnam Concrete Association emphasized: "The solution of Hoa Binh Company is innovative in using hollow slab girders on PRC centrifugal piles, so it consumes less concrete, less cement, has longer spans, saves materials and reduces CO2 emissions. 4 years ago, I was a consultant and expert for the Thang Long bridge deck repair project using the super-performance steel composite concrete solution, a technology that has never been applied in Vietnam, but with the right decisions of the Ministry of Transport on the Framework of standards and technical instructions, along with tests proving the construction technology materials, the results so far after 4 years completely meet the design and usage requirements. This is a lesson and practical experience when deciding to apply science and technology to the construction of transport infrastructure".

Mr. Tong Van Nga, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Building Materials, said: "The pile bridge solution has a number of advantages such as fast construction, no impact on construction progress due to lack of foundation materials, no need to wait for consolidation, environmentally friendly, low investment and maintenance costs.
This solution does not cause separation of residential and agricultural areas, saves land clearance, saves sand resources like traditional methods, and is not affected by climate change, especially floods and rising sea levels, and is not affected by surface subsidence.
This technological solution is also evaluated by professional units as meeting the design requirements. The Institute of Transport Science and Technology evaluates that this technological solution has many advantages such as fast construction and environmental friendliness.
According to calculations by the Center for Research and Consulting on Construction Investment Cost Control under the Institute of Construction Economics (Ministry of Construction), the investment cost for building the expressway viaduct proposed by Hoa Binh is from 12-13.7 million VND/ m2 , much cheaper than the solution of using sand and soil to build the expressway foundation through weak soil areas.
The Vietnam Construction Association also believes that early application of the pile-based bridge solution to construct expressways and viaducts on weak soil will help save budget, meet environmental protection requirements, ensure sustainable development, and complete the goal of building 3,000km of expressways in the 2021-2025 period, and 2,000km in the 2026-2030 period.
According to Deputy Minister of Construction Pham Minh Ha, Hoa Binh Company's technology has been improved and supplemented with technical solutions more suitable to Vietnam's conditions, and it is necessary to continue to clarify the new points of the technology, the ability to meet the criteria of safety, construction life, investment costs, feasibility when implementing, maintenance plans, ensuring urban landscape...

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that from the process of implementing regulations and standards related to the construction of overpasses in Vietnam, Hoa Binh Company and other enterprises need to continue to develop guidelines for the construction of overpasses at enterprises; construction norms and unit prices under specific construction conditions; scope of application under specific geological and hydrological conditions... and publicly announce them after being appraised and evaluated by management agencies.
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned Hanoi City to coordinate with investors of the Hanoi Ring Road 4 project to select and apply Hoa Binh Company's technology and solutions on a specific route section, following the correct investment and construction procedures, in order to fully evaluate the durability, safety, maintenance plan, implementation time, economic efficiency, etc.
