The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs is consulting with ministries and sectors to submit to the Prime Minister a proposal for the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday. In the draft proposal, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs proposes two options for the longest holiday of the year.
Option 1 : Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be off from Thursday, February 8, 2024 to Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (ie December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
With this plan, on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024, civil servants and public employees will have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111, Labor Code).
Option 2 : The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs proposes to take 1 day off before Tet and 4 days off after Tet. Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will take a day off from Friday, February 9, 2024 to Thursday, February 15, 2024 (ie December 30, Quy Mao year to January 6, Giap Thin year).
With this plan, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, civil servants and public employees will also have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off, according to regulations in Clause 3, Article 111, Labor Code).
According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, both proposed options have the same number of days off, but the ministry recommends choosing option 1 because it ensures harmony between the time off before and after Tet.
For employees, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that based on actual conditions and the holiday schedule applicable to civil servants and public employees, employers will arrange the Lunar New Year holiday schedule. The State encourages businesses to apply the same holiday schedule for employees as for civil servants.
Also according to regulations, businesses can take the initiative in scheduling holidays, but they need to notify employees of their Lunar New Year holiday plans at least 30 days before implementation.
