The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said it has just received a document requesting approval to implement two large-scale livestock complex projects from the world's largest pig farming unit.
Accordingly, the first project in Tan Chau (Tay Ninh) is expected to have a scale of 64,000 sows, producing about 1.6 million commercial pigs per year. The second project in Dong Phu ( Binh Phuoc ) has a capacity of 20,000 sows, producing about 500,000 pigs for meat per year.

According to Mr. Pham Kim Dang - Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment - currently, Vietnamese law does not have any regulations prohibiting the raising of livestock and poultry in multi-storey buildings. The model of high-tech pig raising in high-rise buildings is consistent with the State's policy on promoting research, application and transfer of science and technology , regulated based on legal bases such as the Law on Animal Husbandry, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, ...
“However, special attention must be paid to issues related to the environment and disease safety. With high farming density and closed environment, if not strictly controlled, the risk of disease spreading will be very high, especially when an infected individual can cause an outbreak in the entire farming area. Welfare and farming density must be implemented appropriately for each region and province, ensuring reasonable distance between farms and residential areas and other areas.
In addition, businesses need to implement measures to strictly control the slaughtering, processing and traceability of products, while ensuring that the waste treatment system meets standards and developing clear consumption and export plans for output products," Mr. Dang added.
Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment - highly appreciated enterprises in the process of innovation and development of Vietnam's livestock industry. In the spirit of encouraging and creating conditions for enterprises to invest with confidence, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment requested the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine to closely coordinate and carefully review the legal basis and regulations for infrastructure deployment.

According to the proposal, these two complexes are all livestock buildings built in a high-rise model - each building has 6 floors, fully integrating areas for breeding gilts, pregnant sows, farrowing sows, weaned pigs and pigs for sale.
This farm model is also equipped with a series of the most modern technologies. The 4-layer air filtration system helps eliminate dangerous pathogens such as African swine fever (ASF), PRRS or PED. Livestock equipment integrated with artificial intelligence helps accurately monitor the weight, health and living environment of each individual. The smart deodorizing and sterilizing system eliminates up to 95% of odors and harmful microorganisms, contributing to protecting the surrounding environment.
In addition, livestock waste will be treated with advanced technology to be recycled into organic fertilizer, while the wastewater system will be reused to save resources.
Although the high-rise pig farm model is new in Vietnam, it is no longer strange to the world. In China, a farm of only 85 hectares can raise up to 2.1 million pigs, while the traditional model needs 450 hectares to achieve the same output. Another farm with only 6.7 hectares of land has raised 4,000 sows, producing 100,000 pigs per year - nearly 10 times more efficient than traditional ground-level farms.
