The Cat Ba archipelago, belonging to Cat Hai district, comprises 367 islands of varying sizes spread over an area of approximately 300 km², located in the Gulf of Tonkin, about 30 km from the center of Hai Phong city and about 140 km from Hanoi city.
The beautiful, winding road along the coast takes visitors to the Cat Ba archipelago, which has just been recognized by UNESCO as the first inter-provincial/city-wide Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Natural Heritage Site.
Cat Ba Island, with an area of 153 km², is the third largest island in Vietnam after Phu Quoc and Cai Bau, with its highest peak reaching 331m. It is a submerged tropical karst landscape with unique scenery similar to Ha Long Bay ( Quang Ninh ). The islands are isolated or clustered karst peaks or towers, with steep cliffs rising above the clear blue sea. Cat Ba Island boasts many beautiful caves and karst valleys such as Trung Trang, Hung Son, Gia Luan, and Tai Lai (now called Viet Hai)...
Recently, this archipelago was inscribed by UNESCO as the first inter-provincial and inter-city Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Natural Heritage Site.
To promote the image of the Cat Ba archipelago, which has just become a World Natural Heritage site, the People's Committee of Cat Hai District has erected a welcome gate bearing the symbol of the Cat Ba langur - an endemic species facing extinction, currently being strictly conserved and protected on the island.
Here are some images of the Cat Ba Island road in the beauty of early winter:
After crossing the Gót - Cái Viềng ferry, tourists follow Provincial Road 356 (also known as the cross-island road) to begin their journey of experiencing and exploring Cat Ba.
Along the road winding along the limestone slopes bordering the sea, bougainvillea blooms in the golden sunlight of early winter.
After three years of meticulous care, the bougainvillea plants have grown well and are now in bloom.
After passing through Phu Long and Hien Hao communes, visitors can choose one of two routes to continue their journey to the center of Cat Ba town: either follow the old Route 356 through Cat Ba National Park or take the new branch road continuing along the coast. However, those who enjoy exploration and adventure will choose the Route 356 through the national park.
Along the route through the national park, the lush green trees providing shade will give visitors a feeling of relaxation.
Viewed from above, the road resembles a gray thread winding through an endless expanse of green vegetation.
On either side of the road stretched dense tropical forests and towering limestone mountain ranges.
Foreign tourists hike along the trail through Cat Ba National Park.
Strolling through the World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Archipelago is becoming a popular hobby for many young people.
In addition to exploring the rich flora and fauna along the scenic route through Cat Ba National Park, visitors can also visit caves located along the way, such as the Military Hospital Cave, Trung Trang Cave, and Hoa Cuong Cave.
According to a representative of the Gót - Cái Viềng Ferry Terminal Management Board, in the summer, Cat Ba Island sees a large influx of domestic tourists, but in the winter, the ferry service primarily caters to tour groups bringing foreign visitors to the island.
