Reward students for meaningful actions, spreading positive messages
On the afternoon of May 6, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University - came to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to present certificates of merit from the President of Ho Chi Minh City National University to 6 students of the school.
The six students who received the award are all first-year students in the university's sociology department, including: Duong Hoang Dung, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen, Nguyen Bao Nhat Anh, Le Thi Phuong Hoa, Tran Thu Huyen and Nguyen Ha My.
Speaking at the ceremony to present certificates of merit to the students, Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - praised and expressed pride in the school having a young generation full of humanity.
"The act of giving up one's seat to veterans during the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is a small but meaningful gesture. This gesture has spread the spirit of gratitude of the younger generation to those who have contributed to the country.
"The awarding of certificates of merit by the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University to students is a meaningful reward, encouraging students of the school and Ho Chi Minh City National University to continue spreading humane and compassionate actions to the community and society," Mr. Dinh emphasized.
According to Master Tran Nam - Head of Student Affairs Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - these students were awarded for their meaningful actions contributing to spreading the good image of students of Ho Chi Minh City National University on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
"Previously, on the evening of April 29, the group of students had behaved well when supporting veterans in a situation where conflicts arose among the crowd in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City, where activities to celebrate the April 30th holiday were taking place.
Your actions not only help ease the tension at that moment, but also demonstrate the spirit of remembering the source of water, respecting previous generations and expressing gratitude to those who have contributed to the country.
Immediately after learning this information, the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University decided to award certificates of merit to the students," Mr. Nam added.
Don't think small actions are praised
The students who were awarded all said that they did not expect that their small action that day would be widely recognized. For them, it was simply a natural reflex when they saw the elderly in difficulty. Therefore, when they received the news that they were awarded by the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, they were all surprised.
Representing the group of students being honored, student Duong Hoang Dung said that the group's action was just a small thing and believed that everyone would do the same for the veterans.
Dung hopes that together with young people, we can spread the spirit of sharing, being responsible to the community, contributing to building a civilized and humane society. Every act of kindness today is a way for the young generation to express gratitude, continue values, and create a more humane and civilized future.
Nguyen Bao Nhat Anh shared: "When I heard that the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University awarded me a certificate of merit, I was very happy and very touched to be recognized. When we gave up our seats to the veterans, we didn't think much, we just acted according to our hearts. So it was a surprise that our actions were recognized and given so much attention."
Nhat Anh also told his friends that patriotism is not a trend, but an attitude in life - expressed through the simplest things, such as knowing how to share and knowing how to act correctly when necessary.
