The provincial library attracts many children to read books during the summer.
Coming to the children's reading room at the Provincial Library in early June, there were quite a few children looking for and reading books there. As a regular reader at the Provincial Library, Le Minh Anh, Dong Huong Ward (Thanh Hoa City), said: "The reading room is designed in a modern style, decorated with eye-catching, vivid and funny pictures in an open space, taking advantage of natural light. The bookshelves are arranged conveniently and scientifically according to each topic, such as: Reference books for all levels, science books, Vietnamese comics, foreign comics, folk literature, short stories... so I can easily choose the book I love. In addition, when I come here, I can also participate in many activities and games organized by the Provincial Library, which not only helps me develop more life skills but also makes me more confident. Along with that, when I come here, I can also interact with my peers to discuss good books, new things I have just received through books and newspapers to expand my knowledge. Therefore, I will often come here to read books, especially during the summer vacation".
During the summer, in addition to taking their children to gifted classes, life skills classes, etc., many parents in Thanh Hoa City also train their children to have the habit of reading by taking them to the Provincial Library. Ms. Trinh Thi Dao, Dong Ve Ward (Thanh Hoa City), said: "Creating a habit of reading for children is not only a healthy way to entertain and relax the mind, but also limits children from watching smartphones, iPads, TVs, social networks, etc. during the summer. Therefore, every day I often take my children to the children's reading room of the Provincial Library to read and borrow books and newspapers. The space is airy, with many types of books suitable for children's ages. Coming here, my children can read stories, read books, look up information and documents to help them relax, while supplementing their knowledge and expanding their understanding. Moreover, during the summer, the Provincial Library also organizes many rich activities for young readers to participate in, so I feel very secure when my children come to the Provincial Library to read books".
During the summer, in order to spread the reading movement to a large number of young people, the Provincial Library has constantly consolidated and modernized the library system, reading rooms, and bookcases for children. At the same time, it has organized many useful extracurricular activities, creating a healthy playground for children. Mr. Le Thien Duong, Director of the Provincial Library, said: Currently, the children's reading room at the Provincial Library has an area of about 200m2, designed in an open space, modern style, with about 40,000 books of genres such as comics, reference books, ensuring that children can comfortably choose their favorite books and have a suitable location to explore knowledge. Children are always special subjects in accessing knowledge, so the way to provide and convey information must be complete, timely, easy to understand, and appropriate to their ability to absorb and age. Therefore, every year, the Provincial Library has focused on supplementing and increasing the number of books and genres of books and newspapers for children, at the same time, focusing on organizing book exhibition and introduction activities... In addition, the Provincial Library also increases opening to serve readers from Monday to Sunday every week. Along with that, it is promoting, digital transformation, and applying 4.0 technology so that children can access information quickly and conveniently, so that they can register for online cards without having to go directly to the Provincial Library.
In addition, with the desire that students coming to the library not only read books but also practice skills, the Provincial Library also regularly implements weekly experiential activities to attract many children. In the summer of 2025, the Provincial Library has planned to organize a variety of activities from Monday to Friday every week such as: "Reading together - Discovering knowledge", "Drawing pictures with characters in books", "I transform into characters in my favorite books", "Skillful hands", "Exchange of chess and Chinese chess clubs", "Telling stories based on books"... Thanks to that, the Provincial Library attracts a large number of readers to borrow and read books.
In the current era of information technology explosion, with forms of information such as the internet, online reading... also leads to changes in the reading habits of readers, especially students. However, with flexible and creative ways of doing things, along with efforts in organizing activities, the Provincial Library has become a "meeting place" for reading for many students during the summer. From there, not only forming reading habits for students, but also contributing to spreading and developing reading culture to the community.
