Mr. Tran Quyet Thang, Deputy Director of the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Phu Vang District, together with the head of the loan and savings group and Ms. Thao (outside) checked and compared the books. |
Ms. Pham Thi Anh, Head of the Savings & Loan Group in Xuan O village and many local people did not hesitate to talk about the responsibility of effectively promoting the policy capital borrowed and the spirit of overcoming difficulties, developing the economy , and changing the lives of Ms. Thao and her husband.
When Thao and her husband got married, the husband was a bricklayer, the wife gave birth to 4 children and stayed home as a housewife, taking care of the children. Thao had no income, her husband had an unstable job, earning only a few million VND per month, so their life was difficult and difficult in all aspects for a long time. Many times, they dreamed of being able to raise aquatic products like some households in the area, but unfortunately, they did not have capital, if they borrowed from outside, the interest rate was high, they could not "afford". The opportunity came when the local government and the Phu Vang District Social Policy Bank paid attention, created conditions to access and borrow policy capital, Thao's family decided to learn from experience, boldly taking a promising "turn".
“10 years ago, my family bought 2 ponds with a total area of 1 hectare to raise fish and shrimp. During this time, through the Commune Women's Union, I was able to borrow policy capital. I borrowed, paid off the principal and interest on time, and then was given another loan. I kept borrowing many times like that. Thanks to that, my family had the conditions and opportunities to develop aquaculture. The work is progressing better and better,” said Ms. Thao.
When "holding in hand" the policy capital (the largest loan amount was 70 million VND), Ms. Thao and her husband always reminded themselves not to disappoint the trust of the leader of the savings and loan group, the person who directly accompanied and worked side by side with the loan group members; the trust of the associations, the government and the district Social Policy Bank.
After learning from experience, Thao and her husband chose the most certain option to minimize risks and ensure profits. So she chose to raise shrimp in one main crop from March to June for harvest. Each crop releases 100,000 shrimp fry, when the shrimp are "good" and the price is good, the net profit is about 20 - 30 million VND. After harvesting shrimp, Thao starts the fish fry crop, with 100,000 silver pomfret fish. Thao focuses on raising fish fry and supplying them to the market. When the fish fry are almost sold out, she keeps a small amount to raise fish for meat.
Instead of calling people to buy shrimp and fish at the lake, Thao and her husband took the trouble to directly bring them to the wholesale market in Phu Hau ward, Hue city to sell wholesale. After 4 years, Thao and her husband confidently started an additional business. The source of goods is shrimp and fish from the ponds in the village and commune.
“Ms. Thao and her husband are patient, hard-working, dare to think and dare to do, work effectively and always maintain their reputation. During the harvest season, every night, Ms. Thao and her husband wake up at 12 midnight, prepare machines, batteries, aerators, ice..., load them onto two motorbikes and arrive at the lake at 1 am to purchase. Each of them has a motorbike, making many trips to the wholesale market, some nights carrying 250 kg of shrimp and fish. By 7 am, the business is finished and they return home,” said Ms. Pham Thi Anh, Head of the Savings & Loan Group in Xuan O village.
Quick-witted, knowing how to assess the market situation at each market to decide on the appropriate selling price, in 6 years of doing seafood business, Ms. Thao only suffered a loss once. The rest, she always made a profit. The biggest profit day was millions. From the "support" of policy loans, Ms. Thao's family's "cycle" of aquaculture and seafood trading has expanded and improved. Like many households in the area that received policy loans, Ms. Thao's family has risen up to change their lives.
