Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe hopes to bring historical Cai Luong closer to the audience.

On the night of November 10, the Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe performed the play The Imperial Capital Waves after more than 3 months of diligent practice. This is the troupe's first performance since changing its name to the Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe.

The Imperial Capital is invested in both costumes, setting and performance form.

The play The Capital's Waves was written by Dr. People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien and adapted by playwright Hoang Song Viet; People's Artist Giang Manh Ha was the director and Master's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh was the art director.

The play revolves around a turbulent period in the history of the Dinh - Tien Le dynasty when Dinh Tien Hoang made the decision to "dethrone the eldest son and establish the second son", making his second son the Crown Prince instead of Dinh Lien, a man who had made many contributions and helped him build his career.

The storm begins from there, the conspiracies are analyzed and gradually revealed in the struggle for power and the throne. The highlight of the work is the image of Queen Mother Duong Van Nga, who shouldered the responsibility of the country after King Dinh passed away.

With a modern perspective, elaborate staging, focusing on performance form, combining and promoting the strengths of dance art to highlight the climaxes, The Waves of the Capital is not only a historical story, but suddenly becomes close and easy to feel when the character's psychology is analyzed and explained very close to real life.

Taking on the central, “heavy” role, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Doi lets the audience feel the gentleness, affection and closeness of the image of a wife and mother, but also very steadfast, brave and decisive when shouldering the entire nation’s legacy. With her intelligence and love for the country, she gradually clarified the truth, choosing to give the royal robe to Le Hoan, a historic decision that helped defeat the invading Song army.

Although the play was staged by the Vietnam Cai Luong Theatre and won a Silver Medal at the 2009 National Professional Cai Luong Festival, the difference between Cai Luong art in the two regions made the play "Emperor's Waves" by the Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe closer to the Southern audience and created a certain highlight.

The play The Capital's Waves is expected to be performed for the capital's audience in the near future, on the occasion of the 14th National Congress of the Party.

Therefore, the troupe focuses on investing in the play, from costumes, setting to performance form.

At the same time, the troupe also hopes to spread historical cai luong through various media channels, helping to reach more audiences. People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh also revealed a project on historical cai luong that the troupe is nurturing, hoping to be able to implement in 2026./.
