Proactively deploy green development and digital transformation strategies

In the context of climate change, resource scarcity and environmental pollution becoming global challenges, countries consider green economic development as the only way to ensure sustainable growth.

The United Nations, through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs), has clearly identified the goals of reducing emissions, using renewable energy and protecting natural resources as pillars of the future economy. In particular, the eco-industrial park model is considered an important tool to help countries balance industrial development and environmental protection.

Currently, major markets such as the EU, the US, and Japan have all applied strict environmental standards such as: the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM); Emission regulations in free trade agreements (EVFTA, CPTPP...); Priority policies for importing goods with low carbon footprints.

That means, if Vietnamese enterprises, especially those in industrial zones, do not convert to a green model, they will be eliminated from the global supply chain. On the contrary, when meeting green standards, enterprises will not only maintain stable exports, but also access green credit capital, strategic investors and tax incentives.

It can be affirmed that developing green industrial parks is not only an external requirement but also an internal requirement of enterprises and infrastructure investors. When applying the green model, it will bring dual benefits to both enterprises and the environment such as: Saving energy (through the use of solar energy, LED lights, wastewater recycling technology); reducing waste treatment costs and environmental fees; increasing production efficiency and equipment life; enhancing reputation and brand image, this is a factor that is increasingly valued by international partners. From there, the industrial park is not only a place to concentrate production, but also a harmonious economic - environmental - human ecosystem, creating long-term value.

Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Bao Minh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, said that digital transformation and green transformation are inevitable directions for businesses.

Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Bao Minh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, shared about the development orientation of the industrial park in the new period. Mr. Cuong said that the model conversion to an ecological industrial park, developing in a green and sustainable direction is the core strategy of the enterprise.

“We identify digital transformation and green transformation as the inevitable direction for businesses to develop sustainably, attract large investors, and create a stable and long-term production platform,” Mr. Cuong emphasized.

According to him, the industrial park has built a specific roadmap for the 2020-2030 and 2040 periods, focusing on emission reduction, energy saving and synchronous and systematic infrastructure planning, developing indicators on people, environment and sustainable development. The entire park has now unified a common management system, meeting the State's standards as well as the global trend of green development.

In addition, the company also applies advanced technology to save energy and reduce emissions effectively. Regarding outstanding technologies and initiatives in saving energy and reducing emissions, Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong said: “Bao Minh Industrial Park has the characteristics of textile and dyeing production, so saving water and energy is a vital factor. Factories in the park have now saved about 20% of reused water thanks to the application of advanced treatment technology, ensuring cleaner, more friendly and eliminating outdated technology”.

In addition, treated wastewater is filtered and reused, significantly reducing water consumption. In terms of energy, the entire roof area in the industrial park has been covered with a solar power system, helping to be self-sufficient in about 16% of electricity production needs. “Since 2020, all coal-fired furnaces in the industrial park have been replaced with bio-pellets (Biomass) and some factories have switched to using gas to reduce toxic emissions,” Mr. Cuong added.

In addition, the industrial park also upgraded the LED lighting system, applied smart energy management, thereby minimizing emissions and optimizing power consumption. “Our orientation is to build Bao Minh Industrial Park to meet Net Zero standards. In 2024, Bao Minh Industrial Park was assessed and certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for green building standards, thereby becoming one of the pioneering industrial parks in Vietnam to achieve this certification,” Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong added.

Experts say that building ecological industrial parks is considered a solution not only to overcome environmental limitations and shortcomings, reduce resource waste, but also promote sustainable growth.

Ms. Diep Thi Kim Hoan - Director of Sustainable Development, Dinh Vu Industrial Park Joint Stock Company (DEEP C) cited that thanks to the development of the ecological industrial park in DEEP C Industrial Park, it has brought environmental benefits when saving energy of 5,760,000 kWh each year; 89,700 m3 of water... At the centralized wastewater treatment area for DEEP C Hai Phong I and II with a capacity of 6,000 m3 that can be doubled, robots collect water for irrigation for the nursery to provide green trees for the entire industrial park. At this wastewater treatment plant that meets ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, wastewater is collected from customer factories and treated according to strict procedures to meet the standards for returning to the environment.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao, UNIDO Country Representative, said: In the context of a rapidly changing world , resources of labor, land, resources and preferential tax policies have gradually reached their limit; sustainable development, green growth, circular economy, digital economy are becoming the mainstream and inevitable trend of countries; the development of industrial parks and economic zones such as the eco-industrial park model is completely appropriate. This also contributes to concretizing the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, towards the goal of achieving zero net emissions in Vietnam by 2050 as well as implementing the National Action Program on Sustainable Production and Consumption for the period 2021-2030.

Expanding green credit funds for easy access by businesses

Recognizing the important role of innovation and green transformation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has regularly organized seminars and workshops to introduce policies, exchange and share experiences on sustainable development and green transformation in industries; introduce models, technological solutions, cleaner production and circular economy. From there, propose solutions to promote green transformation in industrial production.

"In the context of globalization and deep integration, Green transformation and sustainable development have become urgent requirements. Industries must innovate technology, move towards cleaner production and apply circular economy," affirmed Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang - Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion.

Recognizing the importance of green transformation, in the process of attracting investment, industrial park infrastructure enterprises also choose partners with the same orientation of sustainable development. Sharing about the orientation of attracting investors, Mr. Cuong said: "Our point of view is to accompany enterprises, help them transform digitally, transform green to improve competitiveness, achieve green certificates and enjoy incentives when accessing demanding markets."

For new investors, Bao Minh Industrial Park focuses on attracting businesses that share the same philosophy of sustainable development. At the same time, they are encouraged to contribute financially to green infrastructure projects, in order to create a synchronous, modern and environmentally friendly investment environment.

Bao Minh Industrial Park focuses on attracting businesses that share the philosophy of sustainable and environmentally friendly development.

From the perspective of enterprises developing industrial park infrastructure, Mr. Cuong made some specific recommendations to promote the green transformation process. “The Government needs to issue a set of national criteria for green industrial parks, thereby encouraging infrastructure investors to enjoy preferential loans and reduced environmental protection fees. Strengthen training for environmental officers and energy managers in industrial parks to improve their capacity to assess and manage emissions. Establish a unified assessment system nationwide, ensuring that the implementation and monitoring of green criteria are carried out synchronously and objectively,” Mr. Cuong suggested.

Along with that, Mr. Cuong also believes that green credit will also be a driving force to help businesses invest in clean technology. Mr. Cuong said: "We have now accessed the environmental protection loan package deployed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (formerly). This credit package is really effective, helping businesses boldly invest in modern wastewater and exhaust gas treatment systems that meet international standards."

He hopes that in the coming time, the green credit fund will be further expanded, creating conditions for many infrastructure and production enterprises to receive preferential loans for green projects, promoting the clean energy transition and sustainable development throughout the industry.

“Green development is not only a trend but also a responsibility of enterprises to the community and the future. We are determined to follow this direction so that Bao Minh can become a model of ecological industrial parks in the North”, Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong - Deputy General Director of Bao Minh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company emphasized.
