After visiting and surveying the lychee growing area for export to Japan, and visiting the fresh lychee processing and export facility at Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company in Thanh Xa Commune, Ms. Sadahiro Mari - General Director of A-World Company - highly appreciated the quality of Thanh Ha lychee. The company hopes to apply lychee fermentation techniques to process fresh lychee into many other products such as juice, wine, or use them to produce some types of cosmetics.
Representatives of Japanese enterprises also introduced the fermentation process for lychee. With the aim of processing clean products from nature and preserving and protecting perennial fruit trees, the enterprises hope to have the opportunity to cooperate with Hai Duong province in the future to process lychee products, preserving them for a longer time.

Acknowledging the opinions from Japanese enterprises, Mr. Tran Van Quan - Vice Chairman of Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee - affirmed that the province always creates favorable conditions for Japanese enterprises to purchase and import lychees in Hai Duong, especially Thanh Ha lychees. He hopes that enterprises will cooperate with domestic enterprises to promote and consume Hai Duong lychees well in the Japanese market.
Mr. Tran Van Quan also asked Japanese enterprises to support Vietnamese enterprises in processing and preservation technology so that lychee quality can be guaranteed when it reaches the Japanese market. Hai Duong province will have policies and mechanisms to support Japanese enterprises in agricultural processing.
On the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , Mr. Do Quoc Hung - Deputy Director of the Asia - Africa Market Department - said that the Japanese market's demand for lychee is very large. The Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes to continue to closely coordinate with Hai Duong province in the coming time to bring more lychee into the Japanese market through measures such as expanding the growing area; improving quality to ensure standards of import markets.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will work with the province to protect brands and designs, promote trade activities, and promote the image of lychees in markets. In addition, coordinate to expand products processed from lychees, not only exporting fresh lychees.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong, in 2023, the whole province will have 8,880 hectares of lychee, mainly distributed in Thanh Ha district (about 3,250 hectares) and Chi Linh city (about 3,400 hectares).
Basically, lychee production areas in Hai Duong province are produced according to safe processes. Of which, there are 52 growing areas with an area of 610 hectares produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Lychee production areas for export are strictly controlled in quality to ensure the conditions of importing countries.
In addition, the province also pays attention to the issuance and management of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities. Up to now, the whole province has been issued and maintained 203 codes for growing areas for export to Japan, the United States, Australia, China, and Thailand. There are 13 codes for packaging facilities for export to the markets of China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Thailand. Basically, the codes for growing areas and packaging facilities meet export requirements.
Ms. Luong Thi Kiem - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong - said that this year, Hai Duong lychee output consumed in the domestic market is about 50%; over 50% is exported, of which 45% is exported to traditional markets such as China, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, ... about 10% is exported to demanding markets such as Japan, UK, USA, Australia, ...
“The first containers of goods exported to the US and Australian markets began at the end of May. For containers exported to the Japanese market, this year, Japanese experts went to the production areas to inspect and supervise the packaging and sterilization process. On June 4, the first containers of goods were exported to this market by both air and sea,” Ms. Luong Thi Kiem shared, adding that this year’s crop, due to the impact of the economic recession, consumers’ spending was more limited. Exports are still favorable, but prices will not have the same fluctuations as in previous years.
Thanh Ha litchi is the only agricultural product of Hai Duong among 39 Vietnamese products that are protected by geographical indications in the EU market. The original litchi tree in Thanh Son commune was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as “The oldest litchi tree in Vietnam”. In addition, Thanh Ha litchi has also received many other prestigious awards.
Hai Duong farmers have experience in producing, packaging, and processing lychees for export. In recent years, Thanh Ha lychees have been successfully exported to the Japanese market and have been well received and highly appreciated by the people there.
Previously, with the connection of the province and domestic departments, branches and enterprises, recently Aeon Group (Japan) also came to survey and visit lychee growing areas that met the standards to continue importing this specialty in the following seasons.
Some domestic enterprises purchasing and processing agricultural products for export believe that after today's working session (June 15), the relationship and cooperation with Japanese enterprises will be closer and develop even stronger. In particular, with the orientation towards investing in deep processing, it will help increase the value many times over for Thanh Ha lychee in particular and Vietnamese lychee in general.
