Businesses sign joint statement on accompanying Phu Quoc in green transformation.
On the afternoon of June 10, at the workshop "Action for a green, zero-emission Phu Quoc", representatives of organizations in Phu Quoc signed a joint statement on accompanying Phu Quoc in green transformation.
Let's join hands for green transformation
The event took place at Vinpearl Resort and Spa hotel in Bai Dai area (Ganh Dau commune, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang ), co-organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper, Phu Quoc city People's Committee and related units.
The workshop is the first and key activity in the long-term communication line "Phu Quoc Xanh - Accompanying APEC" of the Green Vietnam project, initiated by Tuoi Tre newspaper.
The signing ceremony was attended by: Mr. Truong Xuan Nhon - Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Infrastructure and Urban Areas of Phu Quoc City, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Permanent Vice President of Kien Giang Province Tourism Association, Ms. Tran Thi My Nghi (representative of Phu Quoc Express High-speed Ferry Joint Stock Company), Ms. Luong Hoang Bich Loan (Deputy Director of Vietravel Phu Quoc Branch) and Mr. Dang Thanh Tai (Chairman of Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Production Association).
The parties agreed on the contents to join hands in promoting green transportation: encouraging and prioritizing the conversion and use of low-emission vehicles, saving energy in business activities and tourism services.
Building sustainable tourism: research, develop and operate tourism products and services in a responsible manner, minimizing negative impacts on the environment and ecosystem, prioritizing the use of products and services from local suppliers committed to sustainable production and business practices.
Businesses commit to a series of actions for a green Phu Quoc and sustainable tourism development.
Resource management and waste reduction: actively apply solutions to save and effectively use water and energy resources, join hands to deploy comprehensive solutions to reduce, classify, recycle and treat waste, especially plastic waste, towards a circular economic model.
Conservation of biodiversity and landscape: Support and participate in programs and projects to protect and restore marine ecosystems, forests and typical natural landscapes of Phu Quoc; commit to not encroach or negatively impact the island's nature reserves and biodiversity.
And finally, raise awareness and spread action: Actively communicate within the business to visitors and the community about green lifestyle and responsible consumption; be willing to share experiences, good models and spread the spirit of the memorandum to partners and the wider community.
Mr. Le Quoc Anh, Secretary of Phu Quoc City Party Committee, said that the workshop aimed to convey a meaningful and practical message about Green Phu Quoc - Pioneer for APEC 2027, spreading the message of a sustainable future.
This is an opportunity to connect the government, managers, experts, businesses and people to exchange and share experiences, and propose feasible and specific solutions from charging station policies, financial support for electric vehicles to green tourism initiatives and waste reduction.
Businesses buy new aircraft to comply with sustainable development
Mr. Do Xuan Quang - Deputy General Director of Vietjet Aviation Company - said that to develop a green Phu Quoc through air transport, Vietjet has purchased new and modern aircraft.
Sharing earlier, Mr. Do Xuan Quang - Deputy General Director of Vietjet Aviation Company - said that the action for green Phu Quoc is a strategic action for sustainable development.
The unit initially identified Phu Quoc as the top destination. Vietjet Air operates 24 flights/day to bring domestic and international tourists to Phu Quoc. Mr. Quang added that this flight frequency will increase very quickly in the near future.
Therefore, in order to develop a green Phu Quoc by air transport, Vietjet has purchased new and modern aircraft, reducing fuel consumption by 20%. In addition, the unit accompanies the local Youth Union to clean up waste, provide and donate electric vehicles for students to go to school; the unit also uses environmentally friendly materials for dishes, chopsticks, bowls and glasses to serve customers on the plane.
As a result, the airline’s passenger numbers have increased but fuel burn has not. The aviation industry is currently at the forefront of efforts to reduce emissions and develop sustainability. In particular, low-cost carriers (LCCs) such as Vietjet, with their ability to optimize their fleets, save fuel and strictly control their operations, have significantly lower carbon emissions per passenger/km, contributing to a lower “carbon footprint” compared to traditional airlines.
Aiming for the Net Zero goal by 2050 in line with the commitment of Vietnam and the global aviation industry, Vietjet has for more than 10 years implemented emission reduction programs on all flights through activities such as: Vietjet has also cooperated with Safran Group (France) since 2016 to optimize fuel consumption through the SFCO2 program.
Since early 2025, Vietjet has applied AI technology - SkyBreathe® with OpenAirlines to analyze flight data, helping to optimize fuel usage. SkyBreathe can help the airline reduce fuel consumption by an additional 2%, equivalent to more than 96,000 tons of CO2 / year.
In particular, Vietjet is the pioneer in Vietnam to deploy the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the first two flights fueled with SAF in Vietnam from October 2024. For sustainable development, Vietjet continues to invest in new fleets, green exploitation technology, expand cooperation in research and development and use of SAF, and utilize big data and AI to optimize operations and reduce the "carbon footprint" of each flight.
For Phu Quoc, the unit believes that the goal of building a "green flight corridor" to the pearl island is completely feasible if there is close coordination between the State, businesses and the community. In addition to the efforts of airlines, specific incentive policies are needed such as: exemption/reduction of flight operation fees for green flights, support for research and application of SAF, issuance of green standards for aviation infrastructure development, as well as strong communication and promotion to spread the message of green flights.
Phu Quoc must be a symbol of pristine nature.
Tuyen said the pearl island deserves to be not only a tourist destination, but also a symbol of pristine nature and environmental protection.
Ho Cam Tuyen - a Phu Quoc resident - graduated with a major in public communication from RMIT University, Australia in 2023, currently working in Phu Quoc, believes that the heart of Phu Quoc lies not only in its wild beauty, but also in the richness of its ecosystem with blue beaches, primeval forests and vibrant coral reefs.
At the workshop "Action for a green, zero-emission Phu Quoc", Tuyen hopes that the locality will increase educational activities and raise environmental awareness for students from the time they are still in school.
"We need to start from schools. I propose implementing environmental protection curriculum at all levels of education. Along with that, organizing workshops, extracurricular activities, and communication campaigns on the meaning and importance of environmental protection not only for students, but also for the whole community.
By raising awareness, we not only help the younger generation understand and act for the environment, but also create a network of individuals who love nature and are willing to work for a green Phu Quoc," she suggested.
