On the evening of June 1, in Can Tho, a fashion show combined with a reconstruction of the "Yin and Yang Market: Buying luck, selling bad luck" took place.
Mr. Ngo Anh Minh, Director of Viet News Media and Entertainment Limited Company - Head of the Organizing Committee said: With the desire to contribute to spreading the unique traditional cultural values of the nation, for the first time "The Yin Yang Market: Buying luck, selling bad luck" - an activity imbued with the folk beliefs of Kinh Bac land has been restored and reenacted in a fashion show in the West.
Guests not only enjoyed the performances of collections by authors Nam Do and Le Thanh Danh with the themes "Soul of the Countryside" and "Harvest Season" imbued with the culture of the Mekong Delta; but also immersed themselves in the space of a unique market - where the living and the dead can meet and trade with each other.
Mr. Ngo Anh Minh said that according to folk beliefs, the “Yin Yang Market” is only held once a month on the night of the 4th and ends at dawn on the 5th of January. This is an opportunity for the living to meet their deceased relatives.
The market does not use bright lights, only a few small candles to light up the goods. Market-goers do not talk or laugh loudly for fear of scaring the spirits and ruining the solemnity of the market space.
People participate in the market with the mentality of "buying luck, selling bad luck", praying for the deceased to be well-fed, to be dedicated... therefore, the items displayed at the market will include votive paper money, porridge, black chicken...
The sellers do not set prices, the buyers do not bargain. Both sides are happy. After the market is over, the remaining people will invite each other to drink water, chew betel, and sing Quan Ho.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Thuong, a resident of Phong Dien district ( Can Tho city) shared: This is the first time she has seen and heard about the "Yin Yang Market."

Through the MC's explanation and the visual images recreated at the event, she saw that this is a unique cultural feature that needs to be preserved and passed down.
She hopes that in the future she will have the opportunity to experience the "Yin Yang Market" right in Bac Ninh - the place where this unique ancient custom is preserved./.
