Children's Day (June 1) opens an exciting summer. Publishing houses also launch many books suitable for young readers, meeting their need for healthy entertainment during the summer vacation.

This year, publishers introduced many publications with messages of fostering love for the homeland and country, arousing sympathy and compassion in the souls of children. Among them, many works have been awarded the Cricket Award, the Award of the Vietnam Writers Association , etc.

As a unit specializing in children's books, Kim Dong Publishing House considers June as Kim Dong Book Month, launching many new books, rich in diverse genres for children and young readers. Many activities to introduce new books are organized on this occasion, along with interesting events every Saturday morning in the Weekend Reading Corner event series.

Vietnamese children's literature evokes love for the homeland and compassion, typically two works by Dy Duyen that just won the Cricket Aspiration Award (organized by Sports and Culture Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency): "From the vegetable fields at Cuc Cu farm" (drawn by Dom Dom) and "The things you use to fill a hole" (illustrated by Thanh Vu).

These are walks in the fairy tale world of anthropomorphized animals and plants. The space is the balcony of an apartment in the heart of a modern city, or vegetable fields. People appear there only briefly, or play a supporting role.

Or “The sweetest plum tree on earth that once visited Ha Long Bay” by Tieu Phong is a true and touching story about family affection, compassion, and forgiveness. The work is included in the first Kim Dong Literature Award Creative Campaign (2023-2025).

This is not only a children's story but also an emotional work, reflecting profound aspects of family affection and the journey of growing up.

Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced “Muon sac canh chuon” – a photo book introducing the beauty and diversity of dragonfly species in Vietnam, the result of more than 10 years of research and fieldwork by entomologist Phan Quoc Toan. All the photos in the book were taken by the author himself in the natural environment across the three regions of the country.

Through the book, readers can understand more about the role of dragonflies in the ecosystem and human life, feel part of the biodiversity in Vietnam, and love and appreciate more what nature has bestowed on the S-shaped strip of land.

Tre Publishing House also released many books that have won children's literature awards.

That is “Train Street Collective Area” by writer Dang Ngoc Hung, a children’s story for adults, telling about the unforgettable life in the North during the subsidy period. The work will shorten the generation gap, helping young readers understand more about the childhood of grandparents and parents during the special reconstruction period of the Fatherland. The book has just entered the Top 10 finalists of the 2025 De Men Children’s Award, a new mark of writer Dang Ngoc Hung after winning the 2019 National Book B Prize with the historical novel “Hung Binh.”

“Autobiography of a Pig” is the work that brought writer and translator Ly Lan the Knight of Crickets Award in 2024. This novel takes us on a breathless escape of a “wild” pig in the city. Through restaurants, motels, and vacant lots, the pig wants to return to the forest, but the natural green space has narrowed and become too far away. The attachment to the two little girls Thuy and Thanh also holds it back.

Top 10 finalists of the 2024 De Men Children's Awards, "Treasure in the City" tells the story of a father and his son's emotional journey of discovery of Saigon, a trip that connects two generations, connecting the father's memories and the son's experiences.

Winning the 2022 Children's Literature Award from the Writers' Association, "Dong Vang Valley" is a story about a school in the highlands, a place filled with love and laughter.

There are mischievous students, enthusiastic young teachers who leave the city for the highlands, and unique cultural values where the Tay and Kinh people live side by side among terraced fields and hills.

Vietnamese Women Publishing House and Tan Viet Books jointly published the 11-volume comic book series “Ordinary Brothers” (copyright purchased from Korea). Each volume will reveal interesting situations, although close to everyday life, but also many times “shocking” by the mischievous and humorous handling of the two brothers Eu-Ddeum and Amy.

This is also an opportunity for young readers to discover all kinds of games, surprising and touching lifestyles of the two brothers; at the same time, laugh out loud at the mischievous moments and unexpected situations that clearly reflect the personalities of children of primary and secondary school age.

These children's literature works will be wonderful gifts for the summer, for both children and adults. The pages bring endless adventures, warm friendships and family affections, helping young readers expand their vocabulary and knowledge, while "grown-up" readers will find their hearts more poetic, innocent and gentle./.
