With his creative and thoughtful writing, after two beloved poetry collections "This sky is too beautiful to be sad - This life is too beautiful to be sad" and "At the end of the day, everyone needs something to believe in", young author Le Hoai Dang (born in 1994) turned his pen to children's topics with the long story "Straw Dog Story" leaving a beautiful impression in the hearts of readers.
Born and raised in a peaceful countryside, ever since he was a puppy, Rom had a close bond and intimacy with humans, loved to hang around and play with his grandmother, knew how to observe and listen to people's confidences. The peaceful days in the countryside passed by until one day with the incident, Rom was caught by thieves and taken to the city.
From here, Rom had to go through every nook and cranny, from pubs, to garbage dumps, under bridges, to old apartment buildings, roadside temples, pet care spas... Rom encountered many fates and circumstances that were both pitiful and hateful. However, through those situations, Rom's "personality" was clearly shown. For example, even though he was starving, Rom still did not steal food from the pub; Rom mustered enough courage to rescue his dog friends from the "dog thieves" warehouse despite the danger; Rom helped Tam The's mother and son fight against the Black Cat gang in the old apartment building; helped Sparrow save his "family" from the bird cages sold in front of the temple to release them as a form of release...
"Straw Dog Story" is written in a simple, clear language, with a natural, humorous tone that will make readers laugh many times. Each chapter is presented by the author as an independent short story with a beginning, climax, and a lingering ending... some things are not difficult to predict, but are told captivatingly.
It was during his journey that Rom understood many things about his species, humans, and other species... And that was also the journey for "humans and animals" to move from understanding to love, through each page.
Le Hoai Dang shared about his writing journey: “I like writing children's stories because I simply like children, and want them to have stories to read, simple and comfortable like eating a cake, drinking a sip of cool water or enjoying the cool summer breeze. Every time I think of the image of readers reading this book, I often imagine them as a child helping their mother sell bread, noodles, helping their father sell taffy, helping their grandmother set up a sticky rice stall or children who go to school and have to help their parents with housework. I always hope that children will read stories that they can see themselves in, helping them appreciate the little things about all things... so that through that, they will know how to appreciate and love, dare to trust and protect good things. I believe that every child with a loving heart will grow up to be a gentle and kind adult.”
A creative plus point for "Straw Dog Story" is the meticulousness in the illustration stage with a series of vivid drawings clearly depicting the image of each character, closely following the progress and space of each chapter.
