According to the draw results at the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is in group B with opponents Iran, Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. Looking at the situation of this group, it can be seen that the strongest opponent of the Vietnamese women's futsal team is Iran. It is difficult for us to compete with our opponents. Therefore, the most practical goal of the team is to compete for second place in the group with Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. On the rankings, Hong Kong (China) - ranked 29th in the world and the Philippines - ranked 55th in the world are quite far behind Vietnam.

To prepare for this tournament, the Vietnamese women's futsal team had a training trip to Japan before. Head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang said: "We had two quality and useful matches in Japan. Playing against the Japanese national team, a team with a fast, high-intensity and diverse playing style. This helped the Vietnamese players accumulate more valuable experience. This is an important preparation step before entering the upcoming big playground."
During the practice session at the Hohhot Sports Center on May 5, Team Captain Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang said that the team had prepared very carefully for this tournament, from technical skills to physical strength. This is the second time Thanh Hang has participated in a continental tournament, but according to her, this year's tournament is very special because the teams will compete for the opportunity to participate in the Women's Futsal World Cup, an important milestone in the players' careers.
Thanh Hang emphasized: “This is the first time the FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup has been held and we are very eager to participate in the world arena. The whole team and I are under a lot of pressure, but also very determined. Everyone is trying their best to overcome all difficulties and focus on this tournament.”
On May 6, the last training session of the Vietnamese women's Futsal team before the opening match against the Hong Kong team (China), Tran Thi Thuy Trang affirmed her pride in wearing the national team's jersey, ready to fight for the national flag in her first time competing in Futsal on the continental stage.
“I have participated in many Asian finals in football, but this is the first time I have participated as a Futsal player. I am very excited and proud to be here. Hopefully my teammates and I will have a good performance,” said Thuy Trang.
Commenting on the opponent Hong Kong (China), Thuy Trang shared: “I have never faced this team, but through watching the video , I can see that they have made a lot of progress. However, I believe that if the whole team plays at their best, we can absolutely win. I come to the tournament with pride as a Vietnamese woman, ready to compete with all my might and hope to contribute to the team's success.”
Thuy Trang also admitted that the differences between Futsal and 11-a-side football, from field size to techniques and tactics, caused her many difficulties. However, she received a lot of support from the coaching staff and teammates to integrate and improve every day.
The Asian Women's Futsal Championship will take place in China from May 6 to 17, attracting 12 participating teams. The teams are divided into 3 groups, each group has 4 teams. The teams will compete in a round-robin, selecting the top 2 teams in each group and the 2 third-placed teams with the best results to qualify for the quarter-finals. The three teams with the best results in the tournament will qualify for the World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Philippines in the near future. This will be an opportunity for the Vietnamese women's Futsal team to make history.
Historically, the Vietnamese men's Futsal team has participated in the Futsal World Cup twice in 2016 and 2021. In both tournaments, the Vietnamese men's Futsal team passed the group stage, then stopped at the round of 16. With the progress of the Vietnamese women's Futsal team in recent times, fans expect them to make history.
The Vietnam women's futsal team will have their opening match against the Hong Kong team (China), taking place at 4:00 p.m. on May 7 (Vietnam time).
Plan of Vietnam women's team
On the afternoon of May 6, the Vietnamese women's team had their first training session in Hanoi. This is a gathering to prepare for important international missions in 2025, especially the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship qualifiers, the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship and the 33rd SEA Games.
Head coach Mai Duc Chung said: "The coaching board plans to call up 35 players for this training session. However, there are currently only 25 players on the list, meaning there are 10 more players missing. Those are players from Ho Chi Minh City club and the U19 youth team because they are focusing on other tasks.
In the list of Vietnam women's team, we give opportunities to many young players. As everyone knows, some older players are now more or less affected in form and fitness. Therefore, the coaching board wants to call young players with ability and capacity to practice and learn from the older players to balance their expertise and mix their forces to complete their tasks well this year."
Regarding the team's training plan, Mr. Chung said: "This week, the whole team will practice from today until Sunday. On May 12, the Vietnamese women's team will have a friendly match with Ho Chi Minh City club. Four days later, we will continue to play a friendly match with the Werder Bremen women's team of the Federal Republic of Germany to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries."
