The latest player to be naturalized as a Cambodian is midfielder Alisher Mirzaev (of Uzbekistan origin). This 29-year-old player is said to be in his 6th year of living in the land of pagodas.
After obtaining Cambodian citizenship, Alisher Mirzaev was quickly introduced to wear the Cambodian national team shirt in the near future.

Notably, Cambodian football currently possesses a series of naturalized players that they can call up to the national team at any time.
This list includes 3 players of Japanese origin, including central defender Hikaru Mizuno (34 years old, 1m78, Svay Rieng Club), Takaki Ose (30 years old, 1m82, BG Pathum United Club of Thailand), midfielder Yudai Ogawa (29 years old, 1m73 tall, Phnom Penh Crown Club).
A player of South African origin is central defender Faeez Khan, commonly known as Kan Mo (33 years old, 1m78, Visakha Club). A player of American origin is midfielder Nick Taylor (27 years old, 1m78, PT Prachuap Club, Thailand). A player of Colombian origin is striker Andreas Nieto (29 years old, 1m76, Bhayangkara Club, Indonesia).

A player of Ivorian origin is striker Abdel Coulibaly (32 years old, 1m79, Angkor Tiger Club) and a player of Cameroonian origin is striker Privat Mbarga (33 years old, 1m68, Dewa United Club, Indonesia).
With the above mentioned large number of naturalized players, it can be seen that the Cambodian team wants to immediately improve its performance. The nearest goal of the pagoda team will be the AFF Cup 2026, held in August next year.
Because the Cambodian team is not present in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the team from the land of pagodas can fully prepare for the Southeast Asian championship about 8 months later.
In the most recent AFF Cup in 2024, the Cambodian team caused a huge surprise when they held former champions Malaysia to a 2-2 draw, only losing by a narrow margin to two other former champions, Singapore (1-2) and Thailand (2-3). Therefore, at the AFF Cup 2026, the Cambodian team wants to do even more, with the large number of naturalized players they possess.
