On the afternoon of July 25, the Vietnamese women's team entered a tactical training session to develop attack, defense and ball rotation plans for the match against Portugal, taking place at 2:30 p.m. on July 27 within the framework of Group E of the 2023 World Cup. Notably, the coaching staff decided to let the players practice in private to maintain focus before the important match, while ensuring the secrecy of the tactics they will use.
The Vietnamese women's team has only two training sessions left before the match against Portugal. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his players will have to "race" against time to have a better performance than in the opening match against the US women's team.
Vietnam women's team practices on July 24 to prepare for the match with Portugal
In the training session on July 25, the Vietnamese women's team had the strongest force when Thanh Nha returned to practice, Bich Thuy and Duong Thi Van recovered from injuries. The training volume will be adjusted flexibly by the coaching staff, depending on the actual physical condition of the players, and at the same time suitable for the whole team to reach the most ideal state for the match against Portugal.
The Portuguese women's team had a relatively positive start, losing 0-1 to the defending runners-up, the Netherlands. Although their attack was not good, with only 1 scoring opportunity in the entire match, coach Francisco Neto's players defended well, maintaining a solid position against one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
The strength of the Portuguese women's team is their muscular style of play, taking advantage of the strength and ability of their strikers.
Coach Neto affirmed: "I feel very proud of the Portuguese players, of what they did in their first match at the World Cup. Although we had to face the Netherlands, there were times when we dominated and made things difficult for our opponents. We will take the field against the Vietnamese women's team with the mentality of having to win. This is not an easy match."
On July 26, the team will travel to Hamilton, preparing for the match on July 27.
