On the afternoon of March 19, the Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) announced that defender Jason Quang Vinh had been granted Vietnamese citizenship.
“After a long process of coordination with all relevant units, today Quang Vinh has officially received Vietnamese nationality, becoming a Vietnamese citizen.
Quang Vinh longs to soon contribute to the Vietnam national team, contributing to the success of Vietnamese football in particular and the country's sports in general," CAHN Club announced.
It is known that the star born in 1997 took the Vietnamese name Cao Quang Vinh.
Obtaining citizenship also means that Jason Quang is eligible to wear the Vietnamese national team jersey.
Quang Vinh has a Vietnamese mother and a French father. He played for Sochaux in Ligue 2 (France's second division) for 6 years, then moved to the US to play for New York Red Bulls for 3 years (2020-2022).
In 2022, Quang Vinh returned to France to play for Ligue 2 team - Quevilly Rouen.
In the Quevilly Rouen shirt, he played very impressively and had a total of 65 matches in Ligue 2.
In the middle of the 2023-2024 season, Quang Vinh decided to return to Vietnam to play for CAHN Club.
Quang Vinh is currently playing very well for the Police team. This season, he has played 21 times for the former V-League champion.
Quang Vinh's citizenship is very good news for the Vietnamese team, especially at a time when the team is lacking a top-class left-back.
As for the Vietnamese team, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are actively preparing for the opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers against Laos.
