Good news in abundance

Fruit and vegetable export activities started 2024 with positive signals when businesses continuously received export orders.

Recently, the People's Committee of Cho Moi District, An Giang Province, in coordination with relevant departments, Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative and Vina T&T Import-Export Company, announced the export of the first batch of VietGAP green-skinned elephant mangoes to the Australian and American markets. This batch of mangoes has been granted a growing area code. This time, the Australian market imported 6 tons and the US imported 1 ton.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung - General Director of Vina T&T Group Import-Export Company said that the export of green-skinned elephant mangoes to the Australian and American markets initially affirmed the position of An Giang elephant mangoes in conquering demanding markets. This is a great opportunity to help promote the image and reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market. Currently, the company is also planning to expand the market to continue bringing mangoes to more countries.

According to Mr. Tung, due to exporting fresh fruit, the company's orders are available all year round. In 2023, the company will have new markets such as grapefruit in the US and New Zealand markets. The US market will also reopen for fresh coconuts. In particular, Vietnam signed a protocol with China on durian, helping durian exports to this market grow significantly. Therefore, in 2023, the company will grow by 40% compared to 2022. With positive signals from the beginning of the year, it is expected that in 2024, revenue growth will continue to increase by 20% compared to 2023.

An Giang green-skinned elephant mango has officially entered the Australian and American markets.

Similarly, Mekong Fruit Import-Export Company Limited is also busy preparing to meet orders in the first days of the new year. Mr. Bui Duong Thuat, Director of the company, said that the company's orders in the US, Europe, and Australia markets are quite stable. From August 2023 to now, nearly 40 containers of coconut have been exported to the US market, and the products are selling quite well. The quality of the products meets the standards of the import market, so orders are stable in 2024. Currently, the company exports an average of 4-5 containers of coconut to the markets each week.

Commenting on the prospects of the Chinese market, Mr. Thuat said that businesses are waiting for China to sign a protocol for coconuts. If the protocol is signed in 2024, fresh coconut exports to the Chinese market will grow positively.

General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen said that the quality of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables has changed significantly, ensuring the criteria for many markets. In addition, the diversity of products with many fruit items is favored by the world market.

Aiming for $7 billion

With a strong boom in fruit and vegetable export value in 2023, businesses believe that this is the starting year for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports, because Vietnam still has a lot of export potential with many products waiting to be opened.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Tien - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company believes that fruit and vegetable exports in 2024 will continue to make a breakthrough in the Chinese market when there is still a lot of room and potential. Through the process of working with Chinese corporations, the company has seen the potential to increase the turnover of processed durian products. In 2024, the company will focus on these products. In addition, the US, Japan, EU markets... are opening their "doors" because Vietnamese fruits are of good quality, a specialty that many exporting countries find difficult to compete with...

Forecasting the export turnover prospects for Vietnam's fruit and vegetable industry in 2024, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen said that currently, many large markets such as China and the EU have had very positive changes and moves. Accordingly, in 2024, after negotiating and signing a protocol with China, Vietnam will officially export coconut products, frozen fruits and watermelons. Not to mention, Vietnamese frozen durian may be allowed to be imported into this country.

"If frozen durian is allowed to be exported to this market, fruit and vegetable exports in 2024 will continue to grow. It is forecasted that fruit and vegetable exports will exceed 6 billion USD and may even reach 7 billion USD," Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen predicted.

According to Mr. Nguyen, the current demand for durian in a market of 1.4 billion people like China is very large. And all durian exporting countries in Southeast Asia are still not enough to meet this market. Meanwhile, compared to other countries in the region, Vietnamese durian exported to China has many competitive advantages in both quality and logistics services, and the cost is still cheaper.
