Doctor Nguyen Huu Bon - Director of Don Duong District Medical Center said: Currently, the birth rate in the district has decreased to a low level. In the first 5 months of 2025, Don Duong District Medical Center has developed a plan to fully and promptly implement the program contents on population and development. Implement the integrated communication campaign to provide reproductive health care services, family planning and improve population quality in low birth rate and replacement birth rate areas in 9 communes and towns.
In 2024, the population work in the district has completed and exceeded 8/8 planned targets, specifically: Natural population growth rate is 0.9%; sex ratio at birth is 102.5 boys/100 girls; elderly people (NCT) receive periodic health check-ups at least once a year, reaching 118%; young women receive health consultation and check-ups before marriage, reaching 106.3%; the rate of pregnant mothers receiving prenatal screening is 67.2%; the rate of newborns receiving newborn screening is 80.2%...
Implementing the People's Health Care Program, improving the physical condition and stature of ethnic minorities, preventing and combating child malnutrition in 2024, the District Health Center implemented 2 contents: Improving capacity in nutritional care for children in the first 1,000 days of life and opening training courses for 68 participants; organizing health check-ups for the elderly aged 60 and over, with 706 elderly people in 4 communes of Pr'o, Da Ron, Tu Tra, Ka Don. The program provided knowledge about health care for those who are responsible for providing health care services for the people in the locality, in order to improve the quality of propaganda and mobilization of people in localities across the district. At the same time, the health of the elderly aged 60 and over with chronic diseases was examined and managed. Through the examination of 706 elderly people, chronic diseases were detected and 219 patients with various chronic diseases were put under management. From there, the district's grassroots health network has a plan to monitor, organize medical examinations or schedule follow-up appointments on time to minimize the situation of the elderly not knowing the disease and when they have the disease, they will be examined and monitored promptly to avoid unfortunate complications.
Implementing Sub-Project 2 "Improving Nutrition" under Project 3 of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024 in the area, Don Duong District Medical Center has coordinated with the Commune People's Committee and the commune health station to implement it from 2021 to present. With the goal of improving nutritional status, reducing stunting, improving the physical condition and stature of children under 16 years old in poor households, near-poor households, newly escaped poverty households and children living in the district, in recent years, many project activities have been implemented and have achieved initial results contributing to the prevention and control of malnutrition in the area.
Intervention activities to prevent and combat malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies for pregnant and lactating mothers and children aged 0-16 years old were implemented in 6/10 communes. Activities to provide nutrition counseling services for mothers from pregnancy until the child is 2 years old are carried out right at commune health stations. During regular prenatal check-ups, multi-micronutrient tablets for pregnant women, expanded immunization days... nutrition officers and nutrition collaborators of villages regularly conduct communication and nutritional counseling for pregnant women, mothers with children under 2 years old about nutrition during pregnancy, iron and folic acid supplements, multi-micronutrients, breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding... At the same time, periodically assess the nutritional status of children under 2 years old, monitor the growth of children under 2 years old every 3 months, malnourished children under 2 years old every month and provide nutritional counseling services for mothers from pregnancy until the child is 2 years old.
In addition, the District Health Center has promoted information, communication and behavioral change advocacy on nutritional care for children and pregnant and lactating women. Communication activitiesto educate on nutritional knowledge and practices have been implemented in many rich forms and diverse content, integrated with nutrition programs being implemented in the community. Strengthen communication on mass media about the importance of comprehensive development of children in the early stages of life, especially in the 1,000 golden days to improve children's physical and intellectual health.
