Dong A Thanh Hoa suddenly parted ways with coach Choi Won Kwon

VHO - Dong A Thanh Hoa Club confirmed that it has terminated the labor contract with head coach Choi Won Kwon after a "respectful and understanding" exchange process. The decision was made in the context of the team having to adjust resources and restructure finances to move towards long-term stability.

Dong A Thanh Hoa Club said that after 3 months of leading the team, Coach Choi Won Kwon has brought professionalism and discipline and contributed to helping the team achieve positive results in the early stages of V.League 2025/26. The Korean strategist's contributions have been recognized and highly appreciated by the club.

However, faced with the requirement to restructure finances and adjust personnel to ensure sustainable development, the club's board of directors was forced to make a number of "difficult but necessary" decisions, including terminating the contract with the current head coach.

This is a carefully considered decision, aimed at the common good and in line with the long-term roadmap of the Thanh team.

Coach Choi Won Kwon is a familiar face in Vietnamese football, having made great contributions to the historic championship of the Vietnamese team at the ASEAN Cup 2024.

In the national team, he took on key tactical tasks, analyzed opponents and advised the coaching staff on personnel, making a clear mark on the team's success.

Before coming to Vietnam, he played as a defender and right midfielder, wearing the Korean U23 shirt at the 2004 Athens Olympics - a tournament in which the Korean U23 reached the quarterfinals and created a memorable milestone in the history of East Asian football.

At club level, Choi played for FC Seoul, Jeju United and Daegu FC, winning the 2000 K.League championship, the 2001 Super Cup and reaching the 2002 AFC Champions League final.

After hanging up his boots, he returned to Daegu FC in 2016 as an assistant, before being appointed head coach at the end of 2022.

In Korea, he is known for his coaching style that emphasizes discipline, tight defense organization, good reading of the game and building a cohesive team.
