Truong Vinh Hien defeated Ly Hoang Nam, winning the PPA championship for the first time in Australia.

Pickleball player Truong Vinh Hien convincingly defeated his senior Ly Hoang Nam 2-0 without leaving any controversy after the final match of Pro Men's Singles PPA Tour Australia 2025.

On the morning of November 16, Truong Vinh Hien met Ly Hoang Nam in the men's singles final of the PPA Tour Australia 2025 held in Melbourne (Australia). Both played excellently to reach the final match.

This is also the first time Vinh Hien met Hoang Nam in a final match of the PPA Tour. Before that, they met in the outer rounds. Ly Hoang Nam won 4, Vinh Hien won 1.

In October at the PPA Tour - Vietnam Cup, Hoang Nam and Vinh Hien had a "big argument" over on-court and off-court incidents in the semi-finals. Vinh Hien won the match but was heavily criticized.

Fate brought two of Vietnam’s top singles pickleball players to Australia to compete in a tournament in Melbourne. This time, their level and class were confirmed right on their host country.

Vinh Hien has improved and stabilized a lot in this tournament. He has spent more time practicing singles compared to the beginning of the year, when Hien focused on playing men's doubles with Minh Quan.

Therefore, meeting Ly Hoang Nam again in the final, Vinh Hien surprised many people. Vinh Hien played proactively, with many different styles of play while Ly Hoang Nam chose to go to the net more.

Game 1 was a tight affair when Hoang Nam reached 4-5, Vinh Hien continued to score 5 points. Hoang Nam also scored 4 points and the first set ended 11-9 for Truong Vinh Hien.

Game 2 was decisive for both players. There were a few more "call out" situations from Ly Hoang Nam but no arguments from Truong Vinh Hien's side.

This tournament takes place outdoors and is greatly affected by the weather. Therefore, when it rains, both players have to stop for quite a while. This also affects the ability of both athletes.

However, Vinh Hien was now leading 10-1 so he had many chances to end the match. The 21-year-old player did not let his senior player get back and ended game 2 with a score of 11-3.

Vinh Hien won the men's singles title of a PPA Tour event for the first time. Before that, he had runner-up, 3rd place and even 4th place. The title opened a new chapter for Truong Vinh Hien.
