Vietnam futsal team plays friendly match with former world champion Argentina

On the evening of June 9, the Vietnam futsal team will depart for Argentina after a week of training in Paraguay. On the same morning, the Vietnam futsal team played their final match against the Paraguay futsal team. Coach Diego Giustozzi continued to test the young players and the teams to evaluate the players' ability to combine.

In the first half, the two teams created many chances but failed to score. In the second half, the Paraguayan futsal team opened the score from a corner kick. The Vietnamese futsal team tried to equalize, applying the power play tactic but to no avail. On the contrary, the Vietnamese futsal team conceded another goal to end the match with a score of 0-2. After 3 matches with the Paraguayan futsal team, the Vietnamese futsal team lost 2 and drew 1.

The Vietnam futsal team was expected to play 3 matches with the host Argentina. However, the coaching staff discussed and agreed to reduce the number to 2 matches. The Vietnam futsal team will use the strongest lineup so that Coach Giustozzi can evaluate the quality through the recent training session.

Argentina is also the homeland of coach Diego Giustozzi. He led the Argentine futsal team to the 2016 world championship. The two matches between the Vietnamese and Argentine futsal teams will take place at 5:00 a.m. on June 11 in Buenos Aires and 6:00 a.m. on June 14 in Rosario, Vietnam time.

This training session is aimed at the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship qualifiers taking place in October. The Vietnamese futsal team is in the first seed group of the qualifiers, along with Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Tajikistan, Indonesia, and Kuwait. The AFC will divide the group into 8 qualifying groups. The 8 first-place teams and 7 second-place teams will qualify for the finals. The 16th spot belongs to the host team of the finals.

The draw for the qualifying round will take place at AFC headquarters at 2:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on June 22. The three qualifying rounds have also been scheduled for October 7, October 9 and October 11, 2023.
