Benchmark scores for many hot industries are forecast to drop by 3-4 points.

Based on the score range and difference compared to last year, admissions experts predict the admission scores for schools based on the 2025 graduation exam score method.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that the 2025 high school graduation exam score distribution shows a very high level of differentiation, especially in Natural Science subjects. Compared to 2024, the 2025 high school graduation exam score distribution for each subject has different trends.

In Mathematics, the average score was only 4.78 points - a sharp decrease compared to 6.45 in 2024; Up to 56.4% of candidates scored below 5, showing that the test was exceptionally difficult. However, the test was still well classified with 513 10 points, while in 2024 there were no 10 points.

Physics has a better score distribution with an average score increasing to 6.99 and 3,929 10s. On the contrary, Chemistry and Biology both have a decrease in average scores. The number of candidates choosing to take these two subjects has decreased sharply, especially Biology (down from more than 342,000 last year to nearly 70,000 candidates this year).

The benchmark scores of many top schools are predicted to drop by 3-4 points.

English is highly differentiated with an average score of 5.38. The percentage of candidates scoring 7 or higher dropped sharply from 25.2% in 2024 to only 15.1% this year - showing that the average score is not high, but the group of candidates aiming for university admission still "maintains their form".

The Social Sciences block is more stable, the subjects History, Geography, Economic Education and Law do not have big fluctuations in scores.

Forecasting the university admission scores in 2025, Dr. Khang said that the combination of A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and A01 (Math, Physics, English), the sharp decrease in Math scores will pull down the total admission scores of these two combinations. It is predicted that the admission scores of majors using the combination of A00 and A01 will decrease significantly by 1-4 points depending on the major and school.

Group B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology) is the group that is most affected when all 3 subjects have a decrease in average score or the number of candidates with high scores is not much. It is predicted that the benchmark score of this group, especially the Medicine and Pharmacy majors, will decrease sharply, possibly up to 4 points for mid-ranked schools and 1-2 points for top schools.

The D01 combination (Math, Literature, English) is similar to A01, the Math score will be the main variable causing the D01 benchmark score to go down. The D01 benchmark score is expected to decrease significantly by 1 - 2.5 points.

For the University of Information Technology, the 3 main admission combinations are A00, A01, D01. Mathematics is one of the 3 main pillars that make up the school's admission combination score. With the "shock" of the Math score this year, the average score of candidates applying to the school will certainly be deeply affected, most likely decreasing compared to 2024. The expected decrease is about 1-2.5 points depending on the major compared to last year.

Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice President of Duy Tan University, commented that the average and median scores of all subjects decreased compared to last year (except Physics). Of these, the subject with the biggest decrease was Math, with the median score decreasing by 2.2 points compared to last year, and it was the subject with the lowest average score among the 12 subjects.

Meanwhile, Math is one of the two compulsory subjects in the high school graduation exam, and is also one of the two compulsory subjects in each admission group. In addition, the average and median scores in English are both lower than last year.

"It is predicted that the admission scores for top majors such as medicine, artificial intelligence, etc. may be stable because there are still many 10-point scores this year. Fluctuations in admission scores may be in the group of majors with an average score of about 6 - 7.5 points per subject. Majors in this range may have their admission scores decrease," he said.

Mr. Hai further analyzed that this year's admission will have a high level of competition, partly because there is no more early admission, admission methods take place simultaneously and there is a regulation to convert a common score threshold between admission methods and combinations in the same industry.

Candidates should consider adjusting their application.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung, Vice Principal of Hanoi Medical University, said that this year, the school will enroll students according to 5 groups, including B00, B08 (Math, Biology, English), C00, D01, A00.

Of which, block C00 is only used in Psychology, B08 is applied to Public Health. These two majors also consider both B00 and D01 combinations. Some bachelor's degree majors use both A00 and B00 combinations; the four majors of Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Dentistry, and Preventive Medicine only consider block B00.

According to Mr. Tung, majors in the upper group such as Medicine, which usually have a benchmark score of more than 28 (Medicine in group B00 and Psychology in group C00), will not have many fluctuations. Majors in the lower group may decrease, the lower the benchmark score last year, the greater the decrease.

Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University, said that the average score of candidates in the 5 traditional university entrance exam groups decreased by 0.8-2.1 compared to 2024. Specifically, group B00 decreased the most, followed by A01 with a decrease of 1.59 points, A00, C00 and D01 with a decrease of 0.88 points.

Therefore, Mr. Duc believes that the admission scores of universities will be lower than last year, especially in the combination of Math and English. He predicts the general decrease will be around 2-3 points. For the National Economics University in particular, the admission score may decrease by 1-2 points, depending on the major and program.

However, candidates should not rely on last year's benchmark scores to set their wishes. The reason is that this year, all schools must convert the scores of methods and combinations to a common scale. For example, in 2024, the entrance score for a major could be 26 points, based on the quota for a combination, but this year it is only 25 points after conversion.

"Students should stay calm and prioritize the majors they like when making their choices. Avoid worrying about your score being lower than last year and not daring to choose the major you want to study," said Mr. Duc.
