Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of May 24, 2025 |
Recorded on May 24, the domestic pepper market fluctuated little, remaining flat compared to yesterday's sharp decline. Currently, pepper prices fluctuate at 146,000 - 147,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper market broke all predictions that prices could increase due to increased supply. Previously, some experts warned that parties in the market should pay attention to the price level of 150,000 VND/kg, if this level is "broken", pepper prices could face a deep price drop.
However, the Import-Export Department believes that world pepper prices remain high due to limited supply after the harvest, along with expectations of improved demand in Europe and the Middle East in the second quarter. However, the main trend remains sideways.
Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper |
In Vietnam, the downward pressure on prices comes from weak purchasing power and cautious sentiment. The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that many farmers are no longer interested in investing more, as costs are getting higher but prices are not attractive enough. Instead, some have switched to growing crops with higher economic value such as durian and avocado. The expansion of pepper acreage is also limited by the increasingly narrowing land fund for cultivation.
VPSA believes that this is the time for Vietnamese pepper exporting enterprises to seek out markets with low market share, while promoting access to potential markets through trade promotion activities and participation in fairs and exhibitions in many countries.
In particular, for markets with high standards, strict quality requirements but good profit margins, businesses must pay more attention to quality control to improve product stability and adaptability to market fluctuations.
