On the afternoon of May 24, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - owner of a durian garden in Cua Duong commune (Phu Quoc city) - said that Phu Quoc has many famous crops such as pepper, sim, rambutan, apple and durian. These crops all bring a stable source of income to the people on the island.
Passionate about gardening and with 1.2 hectares of land, Mr. Hung has planted 100 Thai rambutan trees and 120 durian trees. Because the land is hilly, high and well-drained, he does not need to make beds to grow durian trees but the trees grow well.
Mr. Hung's durian garden is currently in the peak fruit season, with an estimated yield of about 6 tons of fruit per crop. Growing in a safe way, without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides, he sells durian for 100,000-120,000 VND/kg, earning high profits.
"My durian garden only lets the fruit ripen naturally on the tree, without forcing it. Durian on Phu Quoc Island has a fragrant, fatty, sweet taste, so locals and tourists love to buy it," said Mr. Hung.
"My durians are grown without using fertilizers or pesticides. The fruit ripens naturally so there is a lot to sell. People come to buy a lot. People in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi also order and I pack them and send them. My durians are not available to sell at the moment," said Ms. Pham Thi Mui - owner of the durian garden in Cua Can commune - happily.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , at around 3pm on May 24, there were quite a few tourists visiting the durian garden in Phu Quoc. People went sightseeing, took pictures, and enjoyed ripe durian in the garden.
Mr. Do Tran Thinh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Kien Giang province - said that Kien Giang currently has about 200 hectares of durian, mainly grown by people in Giong Rieng, Go Quao, Tan Hiep and Phu Quoc city. Of which, Phu Quoc city has about 40 hectares of durian.
"Durian grown in Phu Quoc is more expensive than on the mainland. Because it is grown on mountainous land, Phu Quoc durian has its own unique flavor, fragrant and delicious, and tourists love it," Mr. Thinh emphasized.
