On the afternoon of May 21, the leader of the provincial Hydrometeorological Station informed that due to the low pressure trough being compressed across the Northern region combined with wind convergence at an altitude of 3,000 - 5,000 m, from the night of May 22 - 24, Hai Duong area is likely to experience widespread heavy rain.

Rainfall in the province ranges from 50 to 80 mm, with some areas reaching 100 mm. Rainy days are likely to bring thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

Since the beginning of May, although it has not yet entered the peak of the storm season, the Northern region (including Hai Duong province) has experienced many dangerous weather conditions such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail. In Hai Duong, several thunderstorms have been recorded, with rainfall ranging from 30 to 50 mm, and in some places over 50 mm.

According to the National Hydrometeorological Station, from May 22 to 25, due to heavy rain, the upper reaches of Thao River, Lo River and some rivers in the Northern region (including Hai Duong) are likely to experience a flood with a common flood amplitude of 2 - 5 m. Heavy rain has a high risk of causing flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in steep areas.

This year, due to the influence of neutral ENSO combined with the impact of climate change, localized heavy rains with very high intensity (over 100 mm/hour) continue to appear frequently during the rainy season. It is forecasted that from mid-May, the Northern region, including Hai Duong, will experience many periods of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain, with common rainfall of 40 - 70 mm, and some places over 150 mm.

In order to respond promptly and effectively to natural disasters, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Duong requests the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to synthesize detailed information on people's livelihood, economic and social activities, sensitive works that are likely to be affected by natural disasters and send it to the Department (through the Irrigation Sub-Department) before June 10, 2025. The Department will synthesize and send it to the Department of Hydrometeorology to promptly forecast and warn to support the direction, operation and prevention of natural disasters.

The provincial Hydrometeorological Station strengthens forecasting, warning, and timely and accurate information on thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail to authorities at all levels, relevant sectors, units, and people in the province to proactively prevent and respond...

Experts warn that during times of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning, people should stop outdoor activities, find safe shelters, stay away from areas with large tree roots, and not stand under corrugated iron awnings...
