Quang Ninh Tourism: Welcoming the April 30 holiday with a new resort trend

After many years of "tourism overload" during the April 30 - May 1 holidays, this year independent tourists coming to Quang Ninh have chosen a more relaxing holiday, also known as a "Calmcation" holiday - "avoiding crowds".

During the 2024 holiday, the number of independent tourists flocking to Quang Ninh increased dramatically, especially in prominent destinations such as Bai Chay, Co To or Hon Gai. Many places were crowded with visitors until the last days of the holiday.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan - General Director of Flamingo Redtours commented: "The April 30 holiday marks the beginning of the beach tourism season after a long winter. In addition, with economic development, more and more families owning private cars, and a distance of only about 2 hours, Quang Ninh has become a top favorite destination for tourists from the North."

However, the large number of people coming during peak season affects the experience of many tourists. Ms. Van (31 years old, Hanoi ) shared: "I expected that Bai Chay would be crowded during peak season, but I had to accept it because there was no other long break. Because of the continuous arrival of customers, the service at the restaurants was not attentive, the space was cramped and crowded. Therefore, children also had less space to play."

During the 5-day holiday last year, Quang Ninh province welcomed more than 1 million visitors, an increase of 48% compared to the same period in 2023. In the 3 peak days from April 28 to 30 alone, some destinations reached 100% room occupancy such as Co To, Mong Cai, Quan Lan, Minh Chau (Van Don) and Ha Long City. In the face of this heat, many tourists have begun to look for quieter spaces, opening a new trend here during the festival.

The trend of "avoiding crowds" travel is on the rise

Instead of flocking to "hot" destinations, many families and groups of young people this year are looking for destinations far from the central tourist area, private, purely for relaxation.

Ms. Mi (28 years old, Hai Phong) shared: "This year, my family chose to go to Tuan Chau because the beach here is quieter and cleaner than other crowded beaches. To fully explore this place, we stayed 1 night at the resort and moved to the nearby Tuan Chau port to take an overnight boat."

Grasping the trend of leisurely travel, looking for less known places, Quang Ninh Department of Tourism quickly promoted the expansion of tourism space, distributing tourist resources to destinations with much potential.

The new tourist routes are connected through 4 key regional centers: The central tourist area in Ha Long City and surrounding areas; the cultural - historical - spiritual tourist area in Uong Bi, Dong Trieu, Quang Yen; sea and island tourism, entertainment in Van Don, Co To and border areas in Mong Cai area. Some new tourist spaces exploit the local cultural and historical identity in potential areas such as Hai Ha, Tien Yen, Binh Lieu...

Businesses launch stimulus programs to anticipate trends

In order to reduce the pressure of tourism in the tourist centers in the center of Ha Long City as well as diversify the experience, the resort model of exploring the bay on a cruise is increasingly popular.
