In the context of economic integration, the 4.0 revolution period, green tourism is not simply a concept, an expectation but has actually become a trend, a development potential of many countries in the world, including Vietnam. As one of the large provinces, divided into 3 regions: mountainous and midland, coastal, plain, nature has favored many beautiful landscapes, imbued with historical and cultural values, Thanh Hoa province has many favorable conditions for developing green tourism.

There are many concepts of green tourism, in general, in some main arguments: Green tourism is a type of tourism based on nature, associated with local cultural identity, with the participation of the community, combined with education on environmental protection, environmentally friendly and almost does not create ecological impacts at tourist destinations.
Referring to the concept of green tourism, looking at a unique landscape and relic of Thanh land, we can see both advantages and disadvantages, potentials, advantages and limitations, and challenges. The land of Thanh land has all the characteristics of 3 regions: midlands and mountains, plains, and coastal areas with beautiful and unique natural landscapes. In particular, Thanh land has a number of famous nature reserves, national parks, and islands such as Pu Luong, Pu Hu, Xuan Lien, Ben En National Park, Ne Island, Me Island... which are the habitats of many endemic and rare species of animals and plants. Each village is an ideal stop for tourists who love to explore nature, experience, and learn about life and the beauty of indigenous culture. The coastal area, with a coastline stretching from Nga Son district to Nghi Son town, a flat coastline with a relatively shallow and wide continental shelf, has long formed many beautiful beaches, attracting tourists such as: Sam Son (Sam Son city), Hai Hoa, Dong beach (Nghi Son town), Hai Tien (Hoang Hoa)... Besides the natural geographical advantages, the human potential for rural tourism development is also very diverse and rich. Thanh land - a land of heritage, cuisine, traditional crafts and villages with typical characteristics. All are like a "green", gentle, affectionate invitation... bringing tourists to Thanh land.
Pu Luong Ecotourism Area (Ba Thuoc) not only has beautiful natural scenery, fresh air, soft terraced fields or deep forests, mountains, undulating hills, Hieu waterfall with rushing water, flower-spreading dances, the sound of stirring the beds or the intoxicating wine... In recent years, the appearance of comfortable, modern homestays that are still close to and in harmony with nature has made Pu Luong a famous green tourism, community tourism, ecological tourism and resort destination, attracting not only domestic but also international tourists. For many years, Pu Luong has become the "meeting place" of the Vietnam Jungle Marathon, attracting the participation of thousands of athletes and domestic and international tourists. The attractiveness of Pu Luong Eco-tourism Area has contributed significantly to the results of tourism activities, socio-economic development indicators, and new rural construction of Ba Thuoc district in particular and Thanh Hoa province in general in recent times.

If lucky, visitors will encounter animals such as: Black-cheeked gibbons, gray langurs... in the wild. Exploring Cua Dat lake - Yen waterfall on a cruise of more than 10km or the journey to conquer Thien Thuy waterfall promises to bring visitors unforgettable memories. After being excited by the primeval forests, absorbed in the Cua Dat lake, letting your mind calm down before the historical - cultural and spiritual relics, visitors step to the peaceful community tourism villages of Ma village (Thuong Xuan town), Vin village (Bat Mot commune) in the middle of the vast space. The eco-tourism experiences here will be a memorable journey when returning to this famous Chau Thuong land.
In order to exploit that potential and advantage to serve tourism development, on November 30, 2020, the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee signed Decision No. 5126/QD-UBND approving the Project on ecotourism, resort and entertainment in the special-use forest of Xuan Lien Nature Reserve until 2025, with a vision to 2030. "This is a great driving force, creating a premise, mobilizing resources to promote ecotourism, resort and entertainment in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve. However, that also poses many difficulties and challenges, requiring the staff to promote their capacity, proactive spirit, learning, dynamism and creativity", Mr. Pham Anh Tam, Director of Xuan Lien Nature Reserve shared. From awareness to action, closely following the content of the project, in recent years, Xuan Lien Nature Reserve has had many practical and effective actions to attract tourists and promote tourism. There are many types of tourism, such as: eco-tourism, community tourism, adventure tourism, camping, lake tourism, exploring primeval forests, heritage trees...
Xuan Lien Nature Reserve Management Board has developed Xuan Lien Travel area to welcome and serve tourists for sightseeing and relaxation, combined with environmental education and propaganda. In addition to investing in infrastructure, building check-in areas and points, 6 registered and inspected boats with 12-28 seats..., Xuan Lien Nature Reserve Management Board focuses on propaganda, education, experience of sightseeing activities, taking care of semi-wild animals, thereby raising awareness of protecting the natural environment... However, besides the advantages, the development of green, ecological and community tourism in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve also faces many difficulties and limitations in legal procedures, conditions for granting investment licenses, construction of works and items serving tourism, administrative procedures for international tourists coming to visit and experience tourism in border areas, border gates... In 2022, the Cua Dat Lake - Yen Waterfall tourist route alone will welcome 7,645 visitors, with revenue reaching 1.3 billion VND, mainly domestic visitors and some northern provinces.
In order for the "smokeless industry" to truly become a key economic sector, in the coming time, the province will continue to mobilize all investment resources to develop tourism with the consistent viewpoint of "not trading off the environment", attracting tourism investment must aim at sustainable development, ensuring harmony between economic goals and social goals, preserving traditional values, cultural history, protecting the environment, security and order, ensuring harmony of interests of the state - enterprises - people. Prioritizing the development of 3 types of products with strengths including: sea tourism, community ecotourism, cultural and spiritual heritage tourism.
In particular, regular work is to promote propaganda and promotion to raise awareness of people, businesses and communities in civilized and friendly behavior towards tourists; protect the image and environment, contribute to sustainable development, constantly build the reputation, brand and attractiveness of Thanh Hoa tourism.
Continue to effectively implement plans and projects related to green tourism development such as: Plan to implement the Thanh Hoa Tourism Development Program for the period 2021-2025 of the 19th Provincial Party Executive Committee; projects to develop agricultural tourism, develop community-based ecotourism, ecotourism, and resorts in protective forests and special-use forests in some mountainous districts of the province such as: Project to develop ecotourism, resorts, and entertainment in special-use forests of Ben En National Park for the period 2021-2030, Project to develop ecotourism, resorts, and entertainment in protective forests of Lang Chanh Protective Forest Management Board until 2030, vision to 2040, Project to develop ecotourism, resorts, and entertainment in special-use forests of Xuan Lien Nature Reserve until 2025, vision to 2030...
From the potential of green tourism to exploitation is a long journey, requiring a lot of cooperation. In addition to budget capital, synchronous infrastructure investment... it is also necessary to improve the quality of tourism human resources, and the sense of responsibility to develop community tourism in a sustainable direction.
