VnExpressVnExpress29/06/2023

Icon of the Seas is considered the "peak of cruise ships at sea" with a 20-story design and is 365 meters long, 3 meters longer than the world's largest ship today.

Icon of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean International, is considered by CNN to be the "world's largest cruise ship" ever, measuring 365 m in length and weighing 250,800 tons. The current title holder for the world's largest cruise ship is Wonder of the Seas, measuring 362 m in length.

The cruise ship is designed with 20 floors and 8 different areas, ready to serve all types of guests, from areas dedicated to young families to spaces for adults such as bars.

Royal Caribbean International CEO Michael Bayley said Icon of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean fleet on October 26 and set sail in January 2024. The ship has a capacity of 5,610 guests and 2,350 crew members and is designed as the largest water park at sea with 7 swimming pools and 6 record-breaking water slides.

Royal Caribbean International touts Icon of the Seas as the “pinnacle of cruising,” using the latest technology and drawing on the company’s 50 years of experience. Bayley also says a cruise on the world’s largest cruise ship will be the ultimate family vacation. There are more than 40 dining and entertainment options, most of which are included in the ticket price.

The cruise ship offers 28 different cabin classes to accommodate families. “Icon of the Seas is literally the best performing new product we’ve ever had,” with “record-breaking” advance bookings for the ship, the company said in its financial report.

The ship was completed at the Meyer Turku shipyard, one of Europe’s leading shipbuilders, in Turku, Finland, and successfully completed its maiden voyage on June 22. About 2,600 workers worked every day to complete the ship. Hundreds of experts were on hand to evaluate its performance over four days of sea trials.

When fully operational, the ship will sail year-round on seven-day cruises from Miami, USA to the Eastern and Western Caribbeans and back. Room rates will vary depending on the itinerary and departure date. The most expensive sailing is to the Western Caribbean on February 17, 2024, with the cheapest room costing $1,581 per person, with a suite costing $3,443 per person. The cheapest price sold is $1,007 per person for a seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyage on October 19, 2024, with a superior room costing $2,879.
