Taking advantage of the alluvial-rich coastal forest area, Ca Mau aims to develop about 200 hectares of semi-intensive crab farming area , with an average yield of 0.5 tons/ha/crop, yielding about 100 tons. At the same time, to gradually modernize crab farming, the locality is piloting a model of raising crabs in boxes with a scale of about 3,000 boxes, expected to yield about 7 tons per year.
Nam Can - Ca Mau crab has become a famous agricultural and culinary product brand thanks to its characteristics of being raised in natural conditions in flooded forests and coastal areas.
“Establish at least 12 new cooperatives, each with a total crab farming area of over 100 hectares; along with building 12 linkage chains and cooperating with 2 supermarket systems, increasing the value of Ca Mau crab products and making them more competitive in the market,” said Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Le Van Su.
To expand and develop the crab industry in a sustainable manner, Ca Mau has implemented the construction of standard crab farming models on a total area of 62 hectares. Specifically, including: a crab farming model combined with product consumption linkage (10 hectares); a model for building a safe crab material area with consumption linkage (40 hectares); and a "field class" model applying microbial products in crab farming combined with improved extensive black tiger shrimp farming (12 hectares).
“Developing crab farming to become the largest center of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country with a suitable production organization model, applying advanced technology to improve productivity, output, quality and competitiveness of Ca Mau crab products, while adapting to climate change and protecting the ecological environment, bringing benefits to people, businesses, developing the economy , contributing to GRDP growth of 8.5% or more in 2025, creating a foundation for "double-digit" growth of the province in the period of 2026-2030", Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su stated the goal of developing the province's crab industry.
It is known that at the end of this year, Ca Mau will organize the 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival in 2025 with many diverse activities and forms to honor crab farming, enhance the value, competitiveness of products and the brand of Nam Can - Ca Mau crab.
