The plan to change the format of men's football at the 33rd SEA Games by host Thailand, from the organization to the age group selection (under U22), is expected to create positive changes for youth football in the region. In fact, in previous tournaments, U22 Vietnam was assessed to have made good use of the U22+3 mechanism to win 2 consecutive gold medals under coach Park Hang-seo.
This is how the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Mr. Park deal with the pressure of team performance with the Vietnam U22 team. It can be said that among the countries participating in the SEA Games, the pressure of performance is especially great for Vietnam, and previously focused mainly on men's football.

Vietnamese football needs a solid "foundation" to go far. |
It is not uncommon for national team head coaches and even VFF officials to lose their jobs because of the U23 team’s failure at the SEA Games. This partly makes VFF not dare to use its young and comprehensive force to participate in the congress.
This is also a barrier that prevents Vietnamese youth football from being given enough opportunities to compete and gain experience for long-term goals. That is also the reason why recently, many opinions have called on the sports industry and fans to "untie" the achievement targets in the SEA Games arena, not only for football but also many other sports, thereby creating opportunities to train and prepare for larger arenas such as Asiad or Olympics.
If we continue to be "tied down" by regional goals, football in particular and Vietnamese sports in general will find it difficult to make a breakthrough.
