Rowing is one of the strengths of Vietnamese sports in the regional arena and has gradually reached the continental level. This has been confirmed by the impressive achievements that the Vietnamese rowing team has achieved, such as the overall first place with 8 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games, 3 times passing the Olympic qualifying round in 2002, 2012 and 2016. At the ASIAD arena, the Vietnamese rowing athletes excellently won 1 gold medal at the 2018 Games held in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the duo Pham Thi Thao - Nguyen Thi Giang ranked second in the qualifying round of the women's double sculls, heavyweight 2-oar, just behind Iran and won a ticket to the final. Competing for a ticket to the semi-finals, athlete Ho Thi Duy (women's single sculls, heavyweight 2-oar) topped a side heat with a time of 8 minutes 34 seconds 52.
