Nowadays, with the development of modern medicine, many types of cancer have been cured and have a higher chance of being treated if detected early. Therefore, recognizing the early warning signs of cancer is extremely important.
According to data from the Global Cancer Organization (Globocan), in 2024, Vietnam will have more than 180,400 new cases and more than 120,000 deaths from cancer. The incidence and mortality rates from cancer are on the rise, especially common cancers such as liver, lung, stomach, colorectal, prostate, breast, cervical cancer, etc.

Doctor Dao Dinh Nhu, Oncology Center (Tay Nguyen General Hospital) said that in recent years, the number of patients coming to the hospital for examination and treatment of cancer has increased. In 2024, the number of inpatients with cancer at the hospital was nearly 8,400 cases. Currently, on average, the Oncology Center examines about 300 cases of the disease each day. Of which, most patients are diagnosed with the disease when it is in the late stages, making treatment very difficult.
According to Dr. Dao Dinh Nhu, cancer is a malignant disease, a group of diseases characterized by abnormal cell growth leading to uncontrolled division and the ability to invade other tissues and organs in the body, causing obstruction and disruption of the normal functioning of these organs and parts. Most cancer patients will experience pain and most patients die due to metastatic cancer causing pain and exhaustion. Cancer is currently ranked as the second leading cause of death among non-communicable diseases in our country. However, people with cancer will have an increased chance of survival and cure if detected early. Early diagnosis of cancer before metastasis occurs will simplify treatment, help patients reduce pain and reduce treatment costs.
According to doctors, in the early stages, cancer usually has few symptoms, but when there are warning signs, you need to see a doctor immediately, which are: a change in bowel or bladder habits; a sore that does not heal; unusual bleeding or discharge; a thickening, a lump in the breast or any part of the body; indigestion or difficulty swallowing; obvious changes in a mole; persistent cough or hoarseness... "Sometimes people ignore symptoms, maybe because they do not think that those symptoms mean there is a problem. However, we should not ignore any symptoms that last and get worse. When there is one of the abnormal signs, regular health check-ups and cancer screening are the best ways to detect and treat early when the tumor is still localized, improving the effectiveness of treatment," Dr. Nhu noted.
In addition, it is necessary to prevent cancer by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, eating a nutritious diet, exercising regularly and avoiding bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol; regularly having periodic health check-ups, participating in cancer screening programs to detect cancer-related diseases early...
