Students at some schools in Ho Chi Minh City are banned from using cell phones in school. They are only allowed to get their phones back and use them after they leave school.

Primary and secondary schools should be banned.

'In my opinion, whether to ban or not needs to be handled flexibly, in accordance with the subject and the specific teaching and learning characteristics of each school. For example, for primary and secondary schools, students should be banned from using mobile phones in school. For high school students, it should not be. The important thing is that schools must tighten management. If this is done, students using mobile phones in school will have many benefits.

First of all, students have the means to communicate, study, entertain, and interact regularly. In addition to textbooks and documents, in each lesson, many teachers now also require students to access knowledge directly through devices such as tablets, laptops, smartphones, etc. This helps students easily access knowledge, apply it, and relate it to practice, making the lesson more lively and less boring.

Currently, many localities pay attention to the combination of face-to-face and online teaching. For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, right from the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training requires schools to have a plan for teaching and testing on online teaching software platforms in their school year plan.

In the 2018 General Education Program, teachers and students choose their own texts and materials... so it is necessary to equip more digital technology tools for learning.

It is not wrong to say that students abuse and are negatively influenced by social networks and then neglect their studies when using mobile phones at school. Because if it is negative, students using mobile phones outside of school can also be affected. Therefore, many times, allowing students to bring their mobile phones to school, and having good management by the school, is also a way to help them form healthy interaction habits." (Ngoc Tuan, teacher in Ho Chi Minh City) .

Don't be afraid that you can't manage and ban it.

Firstly, the telephone is a convenient and popular means of communication. More importantly, it opens up an endless store of human knowledge for us to use, exploit, and apply to our lives, work, and study.

Second, the phone is not a dangerous item, it is only dangerous when people do not know how to use it for good purposes.

UK: Resolutely ban students from using phones in school

Thus, the Ministry of Education and Training's permission for students to use cell phones during class hours to serve their studies is an objective necessity.

Therefore, students should not and cannot be banned from using phones in school. Instead of banning, there should be solutions and regulations toguide students in using phones properly and effectively. There are still opinions against bringing and using phones in class because we are afraid that we cannot control whether students' use of electricity during class is in accordance with the learning content or not.

Students are instructed on safe internet use.

In other words, teachers are worried that they cannot control students when they allow them to use cell phones during class. They can use them to record, film, take pictures of themselves, watch movies... and then post them on social networking sites.

In my opinion, when allowing students to bring and use cell phones during class, the following regulations must be followed: First of all, teachers need to clearly determine whether the lesson content requires the use of cell phones, thereby avoiding students' misuse of cell phones during class.

When using mobile phones, it should be organized in a group discussion method so that teachers can more easily control their usage. Avoid allowing students to use mobile phones indiscriminately and do not require all students to have mobile phones.

In addition, when group discussions require the use of mobile phones, teachers must set a specific time limit, for example, 5 or 7 minutes... to limit students from using mobile phones too much or for the wrong purposes. There should be specific regulations on using mobile phones during class, and any student who violates them will be severely punished. Students who follow the rules will be praised. Families need to educate their children.

For me, applying mobile phones to teaching activities brings a new feeling, stimulates students' creativity when teachers know how to orient to effectively promote this technological device.

Teachers suggest to students reputable and useful information channels.

As an English teacher, I encourage my students to install offline or online dictionary applications to easily look up vocabulary, practice pronunciation, etc. In learning projects, students are allowed to use their phones to record videos and take photos for presentations. To interact with teachers or their friends, students are allowed to share information or collaborate to work in groups. Sometimes, students take multiple-choice tests designed with test preparation software that teachers apply to teaching.

In my opinion, at home, parents also have the responsibility to help students know the advantages and disadvantages of technological devices, including cell phones.

It is necessary to set specific regulations for children on the time they are allowed to use mobile phones and social networks, and to allocate reasonable time between studying, working, and resting. It is also necessary to teach children to share information responsibly, and to know how to verify and evaluate information online.

Mobile phones are a technological device that supports teachers' work as well as students' learning needs. It is important that teachers and parents guide children on how to use them at the right time, in the right place and in the right way.
