Don't update Windows 11 if you're using an MSI motherboard

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên27/08/2023

According to PCMag , the current issue appears to be related to specific MSI boards, so users should check what their motherboard is before downloading the update. The update causing the issue is KB5029351, which was released for Windows 11 earlier this month. The affected MSI motherboards are from the Intel 600 and 700 series, so the manufacturer has advised users to avoid the update if they haven't already installed it.

The issue has been reported with MSI's Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards.

The error is called UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR. If you are already experiencing this issue, you can try the temporary workaround as instructed by MSI before Microsoft releases an official fix. According to MSI, KB5029351 can be automatically uninstalled to allow Windows to return to normal . However, if KB5029351 does not uninstall automatically, users are advised to roll back their BIOS to the previous version and uninstall KB5029351 from Windows.

Currently, both MSI and Microsoft are aware of the issue and both companies are actively investigating the cause. However, there is no exact timetable for when the two companies will release a final fix. In the meantime, users should hold off on updating to Windows 11 if they have an MSI motherboard.

If you are unsure what type of motherboard you have, you can easily check through your computer's settings by searching for System Information, then finding BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product in the System Summary. This will tell you which company made the motherboard and what type it is.

If you have an MSI motherboard, you can check it with MSI's list to see if it is part of the Intel 600 and 700 series before updating Windows 11 to avoid BSOD issues.
