According to Reuters, on May 25, in Havana, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the bloc is Cuba's leading trade partner and is committed to "mutual respect" despite US sanctions against the Caribbean island nation.

“Despite the restrictions imposed by the blockade, which make things difficult, we remain Cuba’s leading trading partner,” Borrell said during a four-day visit to Cuba, speaking to a group of local businesses. He also announced a €14 million fund to support small businesses in Cuba, which he said showed the EU’s desire to accompany Cuba in its socio -economic reforms.
