Exchange rate developments in the world market

In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measures the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) at 106.89, down 0.66%.

The US dollar fell from a two-year high, while the US Treasury market welcomed US President-elect Donald Trump's pick of hedge fund manager Scott Bessent as US Treasury Secretary.

In an announcement on the social network Truth Social, President-elect Trump assessed Mr. Bessent as one of the world's leading investors, as well as a geopolitical and economic strategist, respected by everyone.

He expressed confidence that Mr. Bessent would help usher in a new golden age for the United States in its efforts to consolidate its position as the world's leading economy.

The news sent the yield on the 10-year Treasury note down about 14 basis points. The yield on the two-year note also fell sharply, dragging down the greenback.

Traders, however, regard Mr. Bessent as a seasoned Wall Street professional who has also publicly supported the dollar and tariff policies.

In a contrasting development, the EUR increased by 0.83% to 1.0503 USD, recovering after falling at the end of last week.

Compared to the Japanese Yen, the USD weakened 0.37%, falling to 154.16 Yen.

Sterling rose 0.33% to $1.2572 after hitting a six-week low of $1.2484.
