In that formation, there was a soldier who carried a greater psychological burden than any of his comrades: Lieutenant Vo Thanh Thien, Deputy Captain of Company 2, Battalion 1, Regiment 143.

Mr. Thien’s house is also located in the deeply flooded area, heavily affected. The water rose almost to the attic, his father worked far away, his siblings studied in another province, his mother had to fight the raging water alone.
Such a situation could have made any son immediately ask to return home to help. But as a soldier deployed to his own homeland, Lieutenant Vo Thanh Thien realized that the responsibility did not lie only with his own family.

When the unit received an urgent order to help with flood relief in Hoa Thinh, he knew very well that it was only a few steps away from home. However, he chose to stay with the unit, prioritizing helping the more severely damaged areas and the more disadvantaged households.
It was not indifference to family, but the torn choice of a soldier facing two parallel tasks: taking care of his family and taking care of the people. He confided: “My family has suffered losses like many other families. My mother’s safety is my main concern. After I finish supporting the people, I will ask permission to go home and clean up the house.”

His perseverance has received understanding and respect from the unit's leadership. Lieutenant Colonel Vo Trung Hieu, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 143, emotionally shared: "Although his family's circumstances are very difficult, Comrade Thien is still steadfast in his duty. That is the noble quality of a soldier, a value that the unit always respects. It is Comrade Thien who has motivated the brothers in the unit to feel more secure and try harder in supporting the people to soon stabilize their lives."
The spirit of Lieutenant Vo Thanh Thien is also the common image of all officers and soldiers of Division 315 during the past days. Amidst the mud and chaos after the flood, the soldier has become the most solid support for the people of Hoa Thinh.
