Nearly 100 international students study full-time at Ho Chi Minh City Open University

On October 14, Ho Chi Minh City Open University opened the 2025-2026 school year. In addition to 5,600 new students, the school also has nearly 100 international students studying full-time for a long time.

Lim Mey Mey, 23 years old from Cambodia, chose to study Chinese language at Ho Chi Minh City Open University. Currently, Lim Mey Mey can speak 3 languages besides her mother tongue: Chinese, English and Vietnamese.

Lim Mey Mey said she is a person who loves languages and also loves Vietnamese and Chinese culture, so she chose to study Chinese in Vietnam.

"I know that Ho Chi Minh City Open University has in-depth courses in Chinese - Vietnamese and Chinese - English translation. I think it is a good choice for me because I want to study Chinese - Vietnamese bilingualism and specialize in translation, which is also my future career direction" - Lim Mey Mey shared.

Meanwhile, Phyu Sin Moe Aung, from Myanmar, chose to study finance and banking. Phyu Sin Moe Aung said there were many reasons for choosing Ho Chi Minh City Open University.

"The school has many cultural and extracurricular exchange activities, creating conditions to build a united and close-knit international student community. In addition, I was fortunate to receive a full scholarship covering 100% of tuition fees and a monthly allowance. This has helped me a lot financially, so that I can study with peace of mind and experience student life here. The flexible learning structure, updated content and dynamic learning environment have given me many opportunities to develop myself" - Phyu Sin Moe Aung added.

According to a representative of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, in addition to general subjects taught in Vietnamese, specialized subjects will be taught in English or specialized languages. International students all have Vietnamese language certificates so it does not take much time to integrate into the learning environment.

Awarding 50 billion VND in scholarships to students

At the ceremony, Ho Chi Minh City Open University awarded scholarships to nearly 500 new students with excellent achievements in the 25th enrollment period with a total value of more than 50 billion VND. Of which, the top student in the entire school (based on high school exam scores) was awarded a scholarship of 200% of the first year's tuition and 100% of the tuition for the following years.

The second place winner of the entire school (based on high school exam scores) receives a scholarship of 180% of the first year's tuition and 100% of the tuition for the following years. In addition, 19 valedictorians are awarded full scholarships for all four years of study, with 150% of the first year's tuition being awarded.

The school also awarded 279 scholarships to encourage learning, 47 local cooperation scholarships, 68 enhancement scholarships, 60 scholarships to encourage improvement of Japanese language proficiency, and 19 scholarships to encourage improvement of English language proficiency.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, Ho Chi Minh City Open University will train 51 bachelor's degree programs, 12 master's degree programs, and 8 doctoral degree programs in all three fields of economics , engineering, and social sciences. The current training scale is over 40,000 undergraduate students, 1,187 graduate students, and 154 doctoral students.
