Nearly 3,900 tourists stranded on Cat Ba Island due to storm

Cat Hai district authorities mobilized people on service rafts to return home to avoid the storm.

To proactively respond to storm No. 2, Cat Hai district ( Hai Phong city) has established two working groups to direct storm prevention and control on Cat Ba island and Cat Hai island, headed by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee.

The locality has temporarily suspended all tourism activities on the bays of Cat Ba archipelago from 12:00 on July 22; information and propaganda about the developments of storm No. 2 on mass media so that people and tourists are well informed and proactively take precautions.

According to Mr. Bui Tuan Manh, Chairman of Cat Hai District People's Committee, there are currently nearly 3,900 tourists staying on Cat Ba Island, including more than 430 international visitors.

Following the direction of Hai Phong City, means of transportation from Cat Ba Island to the mainland such as high-speed boats, Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry, Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car have stopped operating, so the locality has mobilized hotels and accommodation facilities to support tourists during their stay to avoid the storm.

"All tourists staying at hotels, the district has mobilized hotels to reduce service prices by 50% when guests stay to avoid the storm. In particular, the People's Committee of Phu Long commune (Cat Hai district) has mobilized and supported 29 passenger vehicles in the Cai Vieng area that cannot move to the mainland due to the ban on ferries to dock at the commune People's Committee headquarters. These 29 drivers have been supported with free accommodation by the People's Committee of Phu Long commune," said Mr. Bui Tuan Manh.

Cat Hai district has also completed the relocation of more than 910 vehicles (including fishing and tourist vehicles) with more than 3,000 workers and passengers to safe shelters.

District departments and branches mobilized 100% of workers on aquaculture rafts to evacuate home to avoid the storm; arranged 10 tourist service rafts in Cai Beo area to take shelter.

Cat Hai district also prepared forces, materials and means in the spirit of "4 on-site", ready to respond to storm No. 2.
