Nearly 45 tons of recycled materials contribute to building a beautiful kindergarten

Not only Ms. Doan, but also everyone in Lang village is excitedly waiting for the school's inauguration day - a joyful and bustling festival.

Looking at the new school, visiting each classroom, observing the funny pictures, Ms. Doan happily shared: “ The new school is clean, beautiful, and has bright colors, so my child really likes it. Every day when I pass by, he points out that this is his new school. Seeing my child happy makes me happy too .”

For Ms. Doan and the Lang villagers, the presence of the new school not only helps their children have better learning conditions. From now on, the rains and the leaky, old, and degraded roof are no longer a nightmare or an obstacle for teachers and students of Khu Lang Kindergarten to go to school.

Ms. Doan was especially impressed when the district leaders and teachers shared information that - the bricks and tiles used to build the school are 50% made from recycled plastic - processed to meet standards and are safe for human health. Engineers used nearly 45 tons of recycled materials in the process of building this beautiful school.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thin, Principal of Trung Ha Kindergarten, said that Khu Lang school was built in 1995, 8 km from the main school. All 65 students of the school are Thai ethnic children, of which 35 students are from poor and near-poor households.

Before receiving the support, the school had seriously degraded in many areas, making it difficult for students to study and live. Whenever it rained, classrooms leaked heavily, forcing students to stay home, disrupting teaching and learning.

The construction and renovation project of Khu Lang school includes the following items: building 3 new complete classrooms, building ancillary facilities for closed toilets and covered corridors, renovating 3 existing classrooms, renovating existing toilets and the school's existing playground to improve safe learning and playing conditions, and improve school hygiene and health for students.

The total cost of the construction and renovation of Khu Lang Kindergarten is over 1.94 billion VND, completed in nearly 3 months with funding from the For Vietnamese Stature Fund (VSF), TH Group (owner of the TH true MILK brand) and Green Future Plastic Company. Of which, VSF and TH Group sponsored 1 billion VND; Green Future Plastic is responsible for technical solutions related to materials, construction and covers the remaining costs.

The special thing is that up to 50% of the raw materials used to produce bricks and tiles for construction are recycled plastic. The total volume of recycled plastic in the project is up to nearly 44.87 tons. Before being used as a construction material, this type of plastic has been processed using modification technology and has been tested for safety, not harmful to the environment or human health.

As the direct manufacturer of this special type of brick, Mr. Tran Manh Cuong, Director of Green Future Plastic Company, said that plastic waste is often difficult to treat and causes serious environmental pollution. “ Our company has invested in research and mastered the technology to treat plastic waste into building materials that are highly durable and do not pollute the environment. In the future, we aim to expand solutions to thoroughly treat plastic waste, contributing to protecting the natural ecosystem, ” said Mr. Cuong.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of Sustainable Development, TH Group, said that this is an effort of all parties to promote recycling and exploit resources from plastic waste that Vietnam is wasting from 2.2 - 2.9 billion USD per year [according to a report by the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank, 2021] towards the goal of building a circular economy and sustainable development.

“ After careful research and being informed that the technology of recycling paper and plastic boxes into building materials ensures environmental hygiene and safety for users, we have coordinated with partners to build charity projects from this special material.

Khu Lang School is a testament to the value of recycling solutions and the message we want to send to teachers, parents, students and local people about green living and environmental protection. We hope that the awareness of waste classification and recycling will not only stop at the school campus but will spread to every family and every student - the future generation of the country " - Ms. Thuy shared.

This is also the view of Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Trang, Director of the Fund for Vietnamese Stature. According to Ms. Trang, joining hands with the Government to build new solid schools for students in difficult areas is an annual activity of TH Group and the Fund for Vietnamese Stature.

Recently, the Fund has coordinated with central and local partners to build a series of new schools in disadvantaged areas, implement the project of 1,000 school toilets, the School Nutrition Meal project, sponsor lunch for 200 poor children in Ha Giang...

The Fund and TH Group also coordinate with partners to integrate activities to raise awareness of the community, especially young people, on environmental protection, promote green lifestyles, reduce plastic waste... The project to build and renovate Khu Lang school for preschool students in the highlands of Thanh Hoa is a further effort on that meaningful journey.

“ We hope this will be a green school and a project that inspires the community in general and the young generation in particular about the importance of protecting the environment and using resources sustainably. Hopefully this will be the starting point for a bright future for the children, ” said Ms. Trang.

Before the 2023-2024 school year, VSF, TH Group, BAC A BANK and partners will build 3 schools and school sites with a total support fund of 8.05 billion VND. Of which, the sponsors will provide more than 5.73 billion VND for the construction of Dien Loc Primary School in Dien Chau District, Nghe An Province; more than 1.94 billion VND for the Lang school site of Trung Ha Kindergarten; and 350 million VND for the Bua Coc school site of Suoi Nanh Primary and Secondary School, Da Bac District, Hoa Binh Province. The total number of students benefiting is more than 700.
In addition, the project to build 1,000 school toilets is still being implemented by VSF, TH Group, BAC A BANK and VVC (National Volunteer Center) with local partners with the goal of renovating, upgrading and building new school toilets, contributing to promoting educational development in particularly difficult areas, improving school health and physical fitness for students.
Over the years, TH Group and Bac A Commercial Joint Stock Bank, through the For Vietnamese Stature Fund, have provided hundreds of thousands of meals to children in mountainous areas, thousands of scholarships to poor students and ethnic minority students; hundreds of schools, bridges and roads for disadvantaged areas across the country with an annual budget of up to hundreds of billions of VND.
