On the afternoon of August 12, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to award the "Taiwan Scholarship (MOE)" and "Chinese Language Scholarship (HES)" to Vietnamese students in 2024. Every year, these are the most prestigious scholarships awarded to international students to study in Taiwan.

This year, a total of 32 students were awarded full scholarships to study at undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. Candidates choose to study a variety of subjects from science, engineering, medicine and social sciences at many universities in the top 100 best universities in Asia according to the QS 2024 rankings.

Applicants will be sponsored for tuition and living expenses. Specifically, undergraduate applicants will receive NT$15,000 (about VND12 million) per month, while master's and doctoral candidates will receive NT$20,000 (about VND16 million) per month.

Students will start studying from September 2024.

In addition, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City also awarded 24 Chinese Language Scholarships (HES). Each candidate will be sponsored to study Chinese for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 12 months at international universities and colleges.

HES receipt period from 1-9-2024 to 31-8-2025.

Mr. Han Quoc Dieu - Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City - said that this year the office received the largest number of scholarship applications in recent years. The scholarship applicants all had very high academic scores, some of them almost perfect.

"We expect that many students, after completing their scholarship courses, can return home and contribute to Vietnam's development," said Mr. Dieu.

According to statistics from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is the country with the largest number of international students studying in Taiwan. Currently, about 27,000 Vietnamese students are studying and researching at Taiwanese schools at all levels.
