1989 marked the beginning of Garmin's entry into advanced GPS navigation products for the aviation industry, then expanded into products in other areas such as automotive, marine, outdoor activities and then sports wearables in 2003, with the launch of the Forerunner 201, the world's first running smartwatch.
In 2022 alone, Garmin recorded more than 320,000 new Forerunner users across Asia. Despite the global pandemic, running activity reported by Garmin users in Asia increased by 24% from 2020 to 2022, with Vietnam, Indonesia and India leading the growth, demonstrating the great passion for running in Asia.
“From the moment Garmin engineers first had the idea of attaching a GPS device to the wrist, the Forerunner product line has undergone a period of development, becoming a trusted running smartwatch that accompanies runners around the world. The strong development of the running field in Vietnam has motivated us to bring breakthrough innovations in technology, helping users achieve their best personal training achievements.” - Mr. Scoppen Lin, Vice President, Garmin Asia said.
For the past 20 years, Garmin has been committed to continuously improving GPS navigation technology, combining this achievement with pioneering smart technologies on the market. At the same time, Garmin has been using reliable data from Firstbeat Analytics for more than a decade, before the world-renowned bio-data analytics company officially joined the Garmin family.

To ensure Garmin products can withstand high-intensity training regimes, all products are put through a comprehensive nine-step testing process, including temperature tests, 10-bar stress tests, acceleration detection tests, high-drop tests, watch strap application tests, button durability tests, etc. These tests will test the products under harsh conditions, to ensure the superior quality of Garmin products.
Technology developed over the years includes Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which provides the most advanced and in-depth data analysis related to stress levels, sleep tracking, maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 Max), fitness level/status, training effect and breathing rate.
The Forerunner running smartwatch product line is now available on the Garmin.com.vn online store, as well as at Garmin brand stores in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , as well as Garmin retail agents nationwide.
