At noon on October 1, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that the city had recorded one more monkeypox patient residing in Ho Chi Minh City. Thus, to date, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded four monkeypox cases out of a total of five cases nationwide.

Specifically, on September 28, a 34-year-old male patient came to the Dermatology Hospital with suspected signs of monkeypox (Mpox).

Another patient with headache was recorded in the community, Figure 1.

The hospital took samples and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. A day later, the test results showed that the patient was positive for the Mpox virus. The patient is currently in isolation for treatment.

After testing positive for Mpox, the City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) investigated the patient's travel history and compiled a list of people who had close contact with the patient within 21 days before the onset of the disease. According to the epidemiological investigation, the patient is a permanent resident of Binh Chanh district and has not been recorded to have had contact with foreigners or traveled abroad recently.

After being diagnosed with Mpox, the patient informed close contacts. Those who were in close contact with the patient self-monitored their health at home for 21 days, and immediately reported to the health station if they had any suspected symptoms. In addition, those who lived with the patient were instructed to clean and disinfect the entire house, room, and personal belongings of the patient.

Those who came into contact with the patient are currently in normal health, with no signs of illness recorded. The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control continues to investigate and monitor the health of the patient and those who came into contact with the patient.

The previous Mpox patient from Dong Nai, temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City (patient 3) is still being isolated and treated, and his health is stable. Except for 1 person who was in close contact with this person in Binh Duong who has Mpox, the remaining contacts have not shown any signs of the disease. Thus, up to now, Vietnam has recorded 5 cases of Mpox.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of September 27, 90,630 cases of Mpox have been identified worldwide.
