Today, April 27, the market has no reference coffee price from the world floor but there are negative signs.

The latest domestic price is 130,600 VND/kg, down 1,500 VND/kg while the reference price on the floor only decreased by 2-12 USD/ton.

In the previous session, domestic coffee prices only increased by VND1,100/kg when the floor price was 99 - 103 USD/ton.

While the price of green coffee fluctuates to the point of heart attack, some farmers have found a way to process it to increase its value.

That is the story of Mr. Le Duc Binh, owner of the farm of the same name in Huong Hoa district ( Quang Tri province), who contributed to turning jackfruit coffee from a hedge crop into a specialty.

Jackfruit coffee is also known as Liberica or Exelsa coffee, a different coffee variety from Robusta or Arabica and is harvested around February to April every year.

Mr. Binh said that before 2023, jackfruit coffee was a hedge crop with the purpose of preserving soil, creating shade and the price was only half that of Arabica, at only 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg of fresh fruit.

However, in recent years, jackfruit coffee has become a "hot" product after experimenting with specialty processing methods, giving jackfruit coffee special flavors that are popular in the market.

Thanks to that, the current crop, the price of fresh ripe jackfruit coffee has jumped to 23,000 VND/kg, 4-5 times higher than before, making farmers extremely happy.

Processing units such as Le Duc Binh farm are selling roasted jackfruit coffee at prices ranging from 800,000 - 1.2 million VND/kg while Arabica is commonly priced from 800,000 - 1 million VND/kg.

"Currently, Quang Tri people are growing a lot of jackfruit coffee. This is a native variety, not affected by pests, does not require care and is very drought tolerant" - Mr. Binh boasted.
