The coffee market recorded mixed fluctuations in trading terms. The 09/2025 futures contract decreased by 23 USD, down to 3,398 USD/ton.

The following terms also recorded a decrease, fluctuating between 7 - 13 USD/ton. Specifically, the term 11/2025 decreased by 13 USD, reaching 3,325 USD/ton. The term 01/2026 decreased by 12 USD, reaching 3,275 USD/ton. The term 03/2026 decreased by 7 USD, reaching 3,239 USD/ton.

However, there was a bright spot in the 05/2026 term, up 2 USD, reaching 3,216 USD/ton.

Robusta’s decline may have come as robusta coffee inventories on ICE rose to a one-year high of 7,029 lots.

Arabica Coffee Price New York August 6, 2025

In contrast, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor recorded a simultaneous increase in all trading terms, this is the second consecutive day of increase on the Arabica floor. The nearest term in September 2025 increased by 7.80 cents, reaching 296.35 cents/lb.

The following maturities such as December 2025 and March 2026 also increased by 7 cents and 6 cents, respectively, to reach 288.65 cents and 281.10 cents, respectively. The further maturities such as May 2026 and July 2026 also recorded increases of 5.55 cents and 5.30 cents, respectively, to reach 275.60 cents and 270.30 cents, respectively.

The rally was fueled by supply concerns as Brazil, the world’s largest Arabica producer, was hit by below-average rainfall. Additionally, a drop in Arabica inventories on ICE to a 5-1/2-month low also supported prices.

Forecast and outlook for coffee in the future

Concerns about supply from major producers such as Brazil (drought) and Vietnam (unfavorable weather) remain the main factors pushing prices higher. However, according to USDA forecasts, coffee production in Brazil and Vietnam in the 2025/2026 crop year is expected to increase. If this forecast is correct, supply pressure could ease, making it difficult for coffee prices to remain high.

A stronger Brazilian real will reduce the incentive for Brazilian producers to export, supporting coffee prices. The US dollar exchange rate will also affect investor sentiment.

The fact that hedge funds are holding too many short-selling positions on Robusta coffee could create unexpected short-covering waves, pushing Robusta prices up sharply again.

Global coffee demand, especially from large markets such as the US and China, will continue to be a growth driver. China’s approval of 183 more Brazilian coffee companies to enter its market shows the huge consumption potential.

Overall, coffee prices are likely to remain high in the short term due to supply concerns and hedge fund moves. However, in the medium to long term, if production in major countries recovers as forecast, prices may adjust.
