According to information from growers and businesses, the price of green coffee beans traded in the provinces of the Central Highlands and Southeast continued to increase slightly compared to yesterday, an increase of 700-1,000 VND/kg. Currently, the average purchase price is at 130,000-134,100 VND/kg depending on the type and location.
Specifically, on the afternoon of April 18, today's coffee price in Dak Lak and Gia Lai was recorded at the highest level of 134,100 VND/kg. Meanwhile, coffee prices in Lam Dong and Dak Nong were at 132,000-133,000 VND/kg. Coffee bean prices traded in Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc were lower, at a common level of 130,000-131,500 VND/kg.
Thus, over the past few days, domestic green coffee prices have been recorded to increase steadily, and are now close to reaching the previous peak of 135,500 VND/kg.
The price is quite high, more than 3 times higher than the common price of previous years, ensuring good profits for growers. However, there are still many gardeners who continue to hold their goods and wait for the price.
In contrast, on the world market, coffee prices traded on the floor turned down sharply after previously increasing continuously.
Specifically, on the morning of April 18, Robusta coffee (Vietnam's main type) on the London floor turned down sharply compared to yesterday's trading session, down 92 - 135 USD/ton, fluctuating between 5,098 - 5,398 USD/ton. Specifically, the delivery price for May 2025 is 5,253 USD/ton; the delivery price for July 2025 is 5,277 USD/ton; the delivery price for September 2025 is 5,211 USD/ton.
Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor on the morning of April 18 also followed a downward trend, down 0.55 - 1.65 cents/lb compared to the previous trading session, fluctuating between 353.50 - 380.90 cents/lb. Specifically, the delivery period for May 2025 is 375.50 cents/lb; the delivery period for July 2025 is 372.60 cents/lb; the delivery period for September 2025 is 366.05 cents/lb.
Explaining this price decrease, many experts said that after a long increase in many consecutive sessions, many investors chose to take profits, avoiding risks when the market still has many factors affecting prices.
In addition, information about seasonal factors, exchange rate changes... also partly affect coffee prices.
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) reported that global coffee exports in February 2025 increased by 7.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 733,800 tons. The cumulative amount of coffee exported from the beginning of the crop, from October 2024 to February 2025, decreased by 2.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 3.292 million tons.
The ICO continues to maintain its forecast for global coffee production in the 2024-2025 crop year at 10.68 million tonnes, down 5.83% compared to the previous coffee crop year, while consumption is 10.62 million tonnes, up 2.25%.
