Coffee price today September 24, 2024: Domestic coffee price decreases following world coffee price

Coffee prices have soared to record levels on the international market over the past week, with robusta reaching $5,334 per tonne in London. The European press has been particularly interested in the price increase, with robusta and arabica up 80% and 57% respectively year-on-year.

The main reason for the price increase is the unstable weather affecting the coffee crops in Brazil and Vietnam, the world's two leading coffee producing countries. Prolonged drought in Brazil and Vietnam has reduced coffee production, unable to meet the increasing demand.

New European Union regulations on anti-deforestation are due to come into effect later this year, prompting traders to try to buy coffee before the rules are implemented.

Although coffee prices at cafes have not increased much, they are expected to increase in the coming time. Vietnam is experiencing its worst drought in nearly a decade, forcing farmers to switch to other crops such as durian to make up for losses.

At the end of the most recent trading session, the price of Robusta coffee in London for November 2024 delivery increased by 169 USD/ton, at 5,228 USD/ton, and for January 2025 delivery increased by 159 USD/ton, at 4,962 USD/ton.

Arabica coffee prices for December 2024 delivery increased by 10.45 cents/lb to 261.20 cents/lb, and for March 2025 delivery increased by 10.30 cents/lb to 258.95 cents/lb.
