Domestic coffee price list updated at 4:30 a.m. on January 4, 2025 |
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in 2024, Vietnam's coffee export turnover will reach more than 4.84 billion USD, surpassing the total turnover of the whole year 2023. Notably, the average export price of coffee in November 2024 reached 5,818 USD/ton, the highest level ever.
Despite rising export prices, Vietnam’s coffee output is facing a decline. Climate change and the El Nino phenomenon have caused drought in key coffee growing regions such as the Central Highlands, affecting productivity and coffee bean quality. In addition, farmers’ switch to growing higher-value crops such as durian and avocado has also contributed to the decline in coffee growing areas.
The European Union (EU) has issued the EU Deforestation Reduction Regulation (EUDR), requiring imported products, including coffee, to prove that they are not linked to deforestation. The regulation is expected to take effect from December 2025, posing a major challenge for the Vietnamese coffee industry in ensuring traceability and compliance with strict environmental standards.
Despite the above challenges, Vietnam still has the opportunity to consolidate its position in the global coffee market. Investing in the production of high-quality coffee, especially organic and specialty coffee, will help increase product value and meet the increasing demand of international consumers. At the same time, applying sustainable farming methods, protecting the environment and complying with international regulations will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese coffee to access and expand export markets.
To achieve this goal, close coordination between farmers, businesses and state management agencies is extremely important. Building a database system on forests and coffee growing areas, along with programs to support farmers in improving farming techniques and environmental protection awareness, will contribute to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam's coffee industry in the future.
